After 20 days of official operation, metro line No. 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien) still attracts a large number of people, especially on weekends when thousands of people flock to experience and check-in. Passengers had to queue from the ticket check area down to the boarding gate, many people took more than 30 minutes to get through the ticket check and board the train. The Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien metro line officially began commercial operation on December 22, 2024, after 17 years of approval and 12 years of construction. With a length of 19.7 km and 14 stations, this metro line has become an attractive destination for people, especially in the first month of free tickets. Minh Hien (Thu Duc City) and his girlfriend took advantage of the weekend to experience the metro and find a beautiful spot to check in with the skylight. "This is the first time we've taken the metro, we thought it would be less crowded after it opened, but unexpectedly today it's still as crowded as the first days," Minh Hien shared.
Many young people also took advantage of the weekend to go to the metro to take photos in ao dai, creating a bustling atmosphere during the days approaching the Lunar New Year. Staff continuously used loudspeakers to call on everyone to follow the correct line, line up in order, and prepare their train cards and QR codes before entering the ticket gate. According to the control staff at Ben Thanh metro station, the number of passengers using the metro on weekends increased many times, from early morning to late afternoon, the ticket gate area was always crowded with people. People rushed down to the boarding area as soon as the staff opened the gate, creating a crowded scene. The metro was packed with people, with almost no empty seats. Many people took the metro to experience it, but most of them could only stand in one place, unable to move around the train.
A baby held in her grandmother's arms cried when witnessing the crowded metro scene. The weekend afternoon trains winding under the red sunset make the Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien metro line even more attractive to many people on weekends, especially young people.
