According to regulations of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) and the 2023 Law on Identification, updating biometrics and identity document information is a mandatory requirement for all bank account holders to ensure smooth online transactions.
Specifically, according to Circular 17 and Circular 18 of the State Bank of Vietnam, financial institutions must check and verify the validity of identification documents, authenticate biometric information and update customers' residence information no later than December 31, 2024.
From January 1, 2025, if the declaration and biometric information have not been verified correctly, updated, or the new information supplementary utility has not replaced the expired identification documents, the payment account holder/bank card holder will not be able to perform online transactions such as bill payment, payment by swiping/touching, payment on e-commerce platforms or money transfer/withdrawal transactions at ATMs...
In addition, the 2023 Law on Identification (Law No. 26/2023/QH15) stipulates that all 9-digit and 12-digit identity cards will expire from December 31, 2024, requiring people to switch to a chip-embedded Citizen Identification Card (CCCD). This means that people need to update their new CCCD information in their bank records to avoid transaction interruptions.
Updating biometrics and identity document information is mandatory for all bank account holders.
To encourage users to comply with the above regulations, the Viettel Money digital financial ecosystem introduces the program "Peaceful transactions - Full wallet", giving money to 100% of customers who successfully update biometrics on Viettel Money.
The luckiest customers will have the opportunity to receive a “diamond shield” worth up to VND 8,686,868 every day. Within a maximum of 72 hours from the successful standardization, the bonus will be added to the customer’s Viettel Money account. The program starts on December 1, 2024 and ends on March 31, 2025 or earlier when the gifts run out.
Thus, by completing the biometric and personal information update this December, customers have proactively protected their personal accounts against fraud risks, ensured uninterrupted transactions, and fully enjoyed valuable incentives from Viettel Money.
“ I was having a headache not knowing what to buy for Tet because this year the company did not have any bonus, but unexpectedly won the biggest gift when updating biometrics, having nearly 9 million to spend for Tet. I am so happy” , QL (25 years old, Hanoi) - one of the first customers to win the “diamond protection shield” prize excitedly boasted.
Successfully updating biometrics on Viettel Money application in December 2024, users can both feel secure in transactions and have a full "wallet" with many valuable gifts.
To update biometrics on Viettel Money, customers only need to follow these steps: Log in to the application and select "Start update"; take a photo of the CCCD and scan the chip; take a photo of the face and confirm the information.
In case the customer's phone does not provide NFC (Near Field Communication) function, the customer can ask a relative to use a device with this function to update biometrics on their behalf, or directly bring the chip-embedded ID card to Viettel Money transaction points for timely support.
Sharing about the program, a representative of Viettel Money said that the goal of the campaign "Peace of mind transactions - Full wallet" is not only to bring added value to users but also to encourage them to comply with current legal regulations, thereby contributing to building a safer and healthier digital financial space.
The representative of the unit also noted that users should update their biometrics from now on, both to enjoy the incentives of Viettel Money and to avoid "network congestion" because at the deadline, the application platform may be overloaded, leading to difficulties in implementation.
