Rice wine is not only a familiar dish during the Duanwu Festival but also has many uses such as improving intestinal health and stimulating digestion.

Nutritionist Nguyen Thi Thu Huyen (Department of Nutrition, Tam Anh General Hospital, Hanoi) said that sticky rice wine is a dish made from purple sticky rice or yellow sticky rice. In the North, sticky rice wine (sticky rice wine) is made from brown sticky rice or purple sticky rice, the rice retains its silk layer and the outer bran layer is further fermented with yeast. In the Central and Southern regions, sticky rice wine is often made from sticky rice fermented with yeast or sweet yeast. Sticky rice wine is rich in nutrients such as starch, B vitamins, and anthocyanin antioxidants that are good for health, especially the digestive system.

Stimulates digestion

Black sticky rice wine can be enjoyed both the liquid and the solids. The wine is fermented by lactic bacteria, converting starch into sugar. This fermentation process is good for the digestive system, improves constipation, and helps prevent some intestinal diseases.

The slightly fermented, sweet and sour taste of sticky rice wine is considered a favorite dish of many people. The fiber and acid in the rice wine help prevent bloating, indigestion, and improve digestion... Nutritionist Thu Huyen advises that people with poor appetite and poor digestion can eat a small amount of rice wine to help the intestines move smoothly and stimulate digestion.

Liver detox

Drinking too much alcohol is harmful to the liver, but sticky rice wine often has a low alcohol concentration and contains many vitamins that are good for the liver such as vitamin B and E. These vitamins help fight oxidation, enhance detoxification and help the liver stay healthy. However, it is important to use it in moderation and not to eat too much.

Boost gut health

Sticky rice wine is fermented into a dish. Therefore, people with irritable bowel syndrome, indigestion, constipation... can enjoy sticky rice wine with other healthy dishes such as green vegetables and fruits. Thanks to the support of yeast in the rice wine, the digestive system is strengthened.

Nutritionist Thu Huyen notes that although sticky rice wine has many health benefits, it is not a dish that should be enjoyed regularly. You should eat this delicious dish after breakfast. Avoid eating sticky rice wine on an empty stomach because the sour taste of the dish can easily increase acid, causing irritation of the stomach lining, increasing the risk of belching, heartburn, and stomach ulcers.

Besides, the longer the rice wine is brewed, the stronger the fermentation process, causing the alcohol concentration to increase. You should eat a small amount to avoid getting drunk, affecting daily activities, especially when driving.

Because 1 kg of sticky rice usually produces about 1.2-1.4 kg of rice wine, the dish contains a large amount of sugar. Diabetics should not eat more than 50 grams of sticky rice wine per meal. If eating right after a meal, they should reduce the amount of rice in the meal by 1/3. In the hot summer, children or people with stomach problems, allergies, eczema... should not eat a lot of sticky rice wine because it can aggravate the condition.
