Mr. Vu Ba Chien's Thai banana garden in village 7, Tam Thang commune, Cu Jut district (Dak Nong province) brings in an income of more than 300 million VND/ha/year.

With the determination to escape poverty and have a stable income, Mr. Vu Ba Chien always researches and experiments with effective economic models on his family's garden. He has traveled to many places, consulted about new plant varieties, but has not yet achieved success.

After many years of research, Mr. Chien accidentally discovered that Thai bananas are grown in many localities in the Northern provinces and bring high income.

He contacted and bought this banana variety to plant. At first, he only tried planting a few acres. When he realized that this variety was suitable for the locality, he decided to expand the area.

Mr. Chien has converted the entire area of land used for growing coffee and ineffective crops to grow Thai bananas. At the same time, he invested in an automatic irrigation system to save water for the entire 2 hectares of bananas. Mr. Chien happily said: "Compared to growing crops, growing Thai bananas gives a much higher income."

According to Mr. Chien, in order for banana trees to grow and develop stably, he installed an irrigation system to each banana bush to proactively provide enough water for the trees. Thanks to maintaining humidity and providing adequate fertilizer, banana productivity and quality are quite high.

Thanks to good care, Mr. Chien's Thai banana garden produces uniform, plump, beautiful fruit that sells for a good price. Traders come to the garden to buy in large quantities.

Mr. Vu Ba Chien used rope to tie Thai banana trees together, creating a strong connection to avoid storms.

According to Mr. Chien, Thai banana trees yield 2-3 times higher than local banana varieties. Care is easy, requires little effort, and costs little. The trees are rarely affected by pests, so pesticides are not used much.

On average, 1 hectare of Thai bananas yields about 40 tons of fruit. With the price of Thai bananas sold at the garden from 8,000 - 10,000 VND/kg, the banana garden has helped him earn more than 300 million VND/year/hectare.

Mr. Chien added that Thai bananas can be harvested after 12 months of planting. Due to the fast-growing nature of Thai bananas and their need for large amounts of nutrients, it is necessary to closely monitor the growth process of the plant in order to take appropriate care and fertilization measures.

Every year, in addition to applying two doses of compound fertilizer when the bananas flower and after harvest, potassium must also be added to help the banana trees become strong, less prone to pests and diseases, and help the trees produce beautiful bunches.

In addition, if the Thai banana tree is yellow, it is necessary to add nitrogen fertilizer to make the tree healthy, produce large, even and beautiful fruit. After 2 harvests of Thai banana, the banana garden will have to be completely cut down and replanted.

It is important to apply fertilizer according to the "4 rights" principle (right type, right dose, right time, right way). During the care process, pay attention to garden hygiene, pruning leaves, not letting leaves touch the fruit...

During the rainy season, it is necessary to prune the leaves of trees with old fruit clusters to prevent the trees from falling in strong winds. You can use rope to tie banana trees together, creating a strong connection in storms.

Currently, from the effectiveness of Mr. Chien's family's banana growing, many farmers inside and outside the commune have come to learn and apply it.

According to Mr. Do Lan, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Tam Thang Commune, Cu Jut District (Dak Nong Province), Thai banana trees are very suitable for local conditions.

Switching from inefficient crops to Thai bananas helps farmers save on care and agricultural land is not abandoned.

"Mr. Vu Ba Chien's model of growing Thai banana varieties is considered an effective economic model, highly appreciated by departments, branches and organizations of Tam Thang commune and has a direction to mobilize farmers to participate in order to replicate it in the area," Mr. Do Lan added.
