(PLVN) - The global economy is changing rapidly, and Vietnam's tourism industry is constantly developing and innovating to adapt to new trends. In particular, the Southeast region, with its rich and diverse tourism potential, is becoming an attractive destination not only for domestic tourists but also for international tourists. To fully exploit this potential, the implementation of the Agreement on cooperation in tourism development in the Southeast region is identified as one of the important solutions.
Sweet fruits of regional connectivity
Regional linkage in tourism development not only helps localities in the Southeast region optimize resources, but also creates a more synchronized, attractive and competitive tourism product. When provinces and cities in the region cooperate closely, they can share information, experience, and resources, thereby improving the quality of services and the experience of tourists.
Regional linkages also help localities capitalize on their unique competitive advantages. For example, while Binh Duong is famous for its industrial parks and eco-tourism, Vung Tau attracts tourists with its beautiful beaches and water sports activities. The combination of these destinations will create a richer and more diverse travel itinerary for visitors.

According to the report on the implementation results of the Agreement on cooperation in tourism development in the Southeast region in 2024, many activities have been organized to promote the development of the tourism industry in the region. In particular, provinces and cities in the region have coordinated to organize tourism fairs, seminars, and tourism trade promotion programs, creating opportunities for tourism businesses to meet, exchange and cooperate.
One of the highlights in 2024 is the emergence of inter-regional tours, connecting prominent destinations in the region. These tours not only help tourists save time and money, but also bring them more diverse and richer experiences. In 2024, provinces and cities in the Southeast region have implemented many specific cooperation activities to improve the quality of tourism services. One of the outstanding activities is the development of linked tourism products. These products include not only tours but also accommodation, culinary services, and entertainment activities, aiming to create a complete tourism experience for visitors.
In addition, localities have also focused on improving the quality of human resources in the tourism industry. Training and skill development programs for employees working in the tourism sector have been organized, helping to improve service quality and better meet the needs of tourists. One of the important factors in developing linkage tourism is promotion. In 2024, provinces and cities in the region coordinated to organize many tourism promotion campaigns, using modern communication channels such as social networks, tourism websites, and other online platforms to reach and attract tourists. These promotion campaigns not only focus on introducing outstanding destinations in the region but also emphasize the diversity and richness of linkage tourism products. This not only helps raise tourists' awareness of Southeast tourism but also creates a positive image of the region in the eyes of tourists.

Thanks to the above cooperation, the Southeast tourism industry recorded many impressive results in 2024. Localities such as Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai, Binh Duong, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Tay Ninh and Binh Phuoc welcomed nearly 74 million visitors, an increase of 12.6% compared to 2023. Tourism revenue reached more than 215 trillion VND, an increase of 18.8% compared to the previous year. This is a clear demonstration of inter-regional cooperation efforts to develop tourism sustainably.
Challenges and solutions
According to Vice Chairman of Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Son Hung, although many positive results have been achieved, the development of tourism linkage in the Southeast region also faces many challenges. One of the biggest challenges is competition from other domestic and foreign destinations. To deal with this challenge, provinces and cities need to continue to innovate and improve tourism products, improve service quality, and create unique experiences for visitors. In addition, maintaining close cooperation between localities in the region is also an important factor. Localities need to regularly organize meetings and seminars to evaluate cooperation results, share experiences, and propose new solutions to improve the effectiveness of regional linkages.

Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Tay Ninh province, Tran Anh Minh, said that with rich tourism potential and the continuous efforts of the provinces and cities in the region, Southeast tourism promises to continue to develop strongly in the coming years. Diverse tourism products, increasingly improved service quality, along with close cooperation between localities will create new opportunities for the tourism industry in the region.
According to Mr. Tran Anh Minh, to realize this goal, provinces and cities need to continue investing in tourism infrastructure, improving service quality, and stepping up promotion. At the same time, the development of unique tourism products imbued with local cultural identity also needs to be focused on, in order to attract tourists and create memorable experiences.
Regional linkage in tourism development in the Southeast is not only an inevitable trend but also an effective solution to enhance the competitiveness of the tourism industry in the region. Through close cooperation, provinces and cities can maximize tourism potential, create attractive and quality tourism products, thereby attracting more and more tourists to the Southeast.
