Emotional reunion day

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation Day of Khanh Hoa Province (April 2, 1975 - April 2, 2025), recently, the City Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Nha Trang City organized a meeting with officers and soldiers who directly fought and served in combat on the Khanh Hoa battlefield during the resistance war against the US to save the country. This is not only an occasion to pay tribute to the great contributions of veterans, but also an opportunity for former comrades and teammates to meet, reminisce, share pride and emotions about a heroic time of fighting...

Warm comradeship, old teammates

The meeting was attended by leaders of Nha Trang City, representatives of departments, branches, and organizations of the city, and especially the presence of nearly 200 cadres and members of the Nha Trang City Association for the Resistance War to Save the Country, representing more than 400 cadres and members of the entire association. Although the cadres and members are now old and not in good health, their faces marked by the passage of time, their eyes still contain pride and unforgettable memories of the days of arduous fighting and heroic victory half a century ago.

During the meeting, the delegates enjoyed the art program with the theme "Our Heroes"; watched a documentary about the liberation day of Khanh Hoa province, the liberation day of the South, and the reunification of the country. The delegates reviewed the historical significance and strategic importance of the event in the history of the struggle against the US to save the country in their homeland Nha Trang - Khanh Hoa; at the same time, looked back on the 50-year journey of Nha Trang - Khanh Hoa building, innovation and development. Especially in the art program, while the music was playing, the veterans stood up and sang revolutionary songs together, as an affirmation that patriotism and solidarity still live forever in everyone's heart. The atmosphere at that time was suddenly filled with pride as each melody and each verse seemed to embrace the glorious past and the bright future of their homeland and country.

In that emotional atmosphere, veteran Nguyen Van Ngheu (86 years old, residing in Vinh Phuong commune) shared: “On April 2, 1975, I was a sergeant in charge of logistics management of the C89 Engineering Unit, Khanh Hoa Provincial Military Command. That day, under orders from superiors, our unit coordinated with the 3rd Corps from Dak Lak to attack and liberate Khanh Hoa province. 50 years have passed, attending today's meeting, I feel very honored and happy to meet again my brothers in the same unit who fought side by side in the past." Veteran Le Viet Thung (85 years old, residing in Phuoc Hai ward) said emotionally: “Meeting my comrades again and recalling the old atmosphere makes me very emotional. This is a rare occasion, marking the end of many years of fighting side by side in the war. Now that we can meet again, it is very precious. And who knows, maybe this is the last reunion of our lives, because we are all old and weak!”

The sharing of Mr. Ngheu and Mr. Thung made the atmosphere filled with emotions. Many veterans were moved to tears when remembering their fallen comrades, their comrades in arms who had together built the future of the country. They exchanged warm handshakes and loving hugs as an affirmation that, no matter how much time passed, their fighting spirit and patriotism would never fade.

Unity, towards the future

The journey to liberate Khanh Hoa province in 1975 is not only a story of war, but also a testament to the indomitable spirit and passionate patriotism of revolutionary soldiers. At the meeting, in the eyes of each participant, from warm smiles to silent tears, there was a rich history and national pride. Every word, every action in the reunion of the old soldiers was like a vivid epic about patriotism, sacrifice and belief in the bright future of the Vietnamese people. Mr. Le Kim Dinh - Chairman of the Association of Traditional Resistance for National Salvation of Ho Chi Minh City. Nha Trang shared: “Today, before the comprehensive innovation and development of Nha Trang - Khanh Hoa, we are deeply moved to remember our comrades and teammates - the children from all over the country who heroically fought and sacrificed on this beloved land of Nha Trang - Khanh Hoa. Although time, circumstances, age, and health of each of us have changed, in any circumstance, we are always steadfast, steadfast in the goals and ideals of the Party, determined to protect the Party, protect the socialist regime, and contribute to protecting the people from the grassroots level…”.

The meeting also has a special meaning, as a bridge between generations, an opportunity for veterans to convey historical lessons and valuable life experiences to the younger generation when nearly 200 union members and young people representing the city's youth participated. As shared by Mr. Chu Minh Phuong - Secretary of Nha Trang City Youth Union: "I was very moved when hearing the greetings and inquiries; seeing the hugs and tight handshakes of veterans for each other in today's reunion. The meeting with veterans who directly fought and served on the Khanh Hoa battlefield during the resistance war against the US to save the country is an opportunity for us to look back on the arduous but proud journey of the revolution. This is also an opportunity to propagate, educate, and foster patriotism, national pride, and revolutionary traditions for the city's young generation!"

In his speech of gratitude, Mr. Tran Xuan Lam - Standing Deputy Secretary of Nha Trang City Party Committee emphasized: "In recent times, the City's Association of the Resistance War for National Salvation has promoted the tradition of patriotism, the spirit of revolutionary struggle, regularly cared for the political and ideological education of the young generation; promoted propaganda to well implement the guidelines, policies, laws of the Party and State; cared for building a strong Party and government; constantly strived to set an example, contributing to the overall development of the province and city...".

The meeting ended in a warm atmosphere, with tight handshakes, words of advice and even emotional tears. 50 years have passed, but the resilient fighting spirit and deep camaraderie will forever remain in the hearts of the soldiers who liberated Nha Trang - Khanh Hoa in the past...!
