People in Hoa Thi village, Tho Dien border commune (Vu Quang, Ha Tinh) have built a honey brand, thereby increasing income in new rural construction.
Beekeeping for honey is an effective economic development direction in Hoa Thi village (Tho Dien commune).
Previously, Mr. Nguyen Van Thang's family in Hoa Thi village (Tho Dien commune) raised bees using traditional methods, the honey source was mainly consumed within the province, and the price was unstable.
In early 2023, after receiving propaganda and mobilization from all levels, Mr. Thang and 6 other beekeeping households in Hoa Thi village decided to establish Minh Chau beekeeping cooperative to build a brand and share experiences and techniques.
Mr. Nguyen Van Thang's family in Hoa Thi village (Tho Dien commune) currently raises 60 bee colonies.
Mr. Thang said: “In early 2023, we decided to establish the Minh Chau beekeeping cooperative. After the nest was in stable operation, we built the OCOP product and the documents have been completed, expected to be assessed at the end of December. Since successfully building the Minh Chau honey brand, people in the nest are no longer worried about output and prices like in previous crops.”
“My family currently raises 60 bee colonies, supplying the market with an average of more than 500 liters of honey each year. Before joining the cooperative, my family only sold honey for 200,000 VND/liter. However, since joining the cooperative, the price of honey has reached 250,000 VND/liter and the product has gained a foothold in the market,” Mr. Thang added.
Participating in Minh Chau beekeeping cooperative, honey products of Hoa Thi villagers are increasingly widely consumed.
Not only did Mr. Thang's family enjoy "double benefits" from participating in the Minh Chau beekeeping cooperative, but the remaining members of the group were also excited when all the harvested products were sold, prices were stable, and income was high.
It is known that the nest currently has nearly 300 bee colonies. It is expected that in the coming seasons, the nest will increase the number of colonies and members to meet market demand.
Mr. Nguyen Van Minh - a member of the Minh Chau beekeeping cooperative said: "During the recent honey harvest season, all of my family's honey products were purchased by customers in Da Nang. Thanks to the guaranteed farming techniques that the authorities have guided, my family's 50 bee colonies always produce good quality honey, which is trusted by customers. It can be said that participating in the cooperative has helped the honey products of Hoa Thi border village have the opportunity to access many potential markets."
According to Mr. Minh, in the recent honey crop, his family supplied the market with more than 400 liters of honey, different from other households. While most people sell honey for 180,000 - 200,000 VND/liter, Mr. Minh's family, thanks to building a brand, sells it for 250,000 VND/liter, bringing in an income of nearly 100 million VND.
Currently, members of the Minh Chau beekeeping cooperative are completing documents to build products that meet OCOP standards.
Mr. Nguyen Dang Nhan - Chairman of Tho Dien Commune People's Committee said: The whole commune currently has over 100 beekeeping households, with nearly 1,700 hives. In particular, Minh Chau beekeeping cooperative is supporting the group to build OCOP products to enhance the brand.
In order for the local beekeeping industry to develop and for products to increasingly reach large markets, the locality is mobilizing households to join cooperatives to unify product quality, thereby improving competitiveness in the market.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Luong - Deputy Chief of the Office of New Rural Areas in Vu Quang district said: “Through visiting and inspecting, we highly appreciate the process of raising and harvesting honey of the Minh Chau beekeeping cooperative. The district is supporting the group to build OCOP products to help people increase their income. Accompanying people on the journey of "upgrading" local agricultural products, in recent years, the district has had many support policies for people such as: technical support, processes, documents... to build OCOP products; support of 30 million VND when the product meets the standards. This is also a solution to help people feel secure in developing bee colonies, contributing to ensuring income criteria in building new rural areas".
