RMIT University's Vietnam Festival of Creativity and Design (VFCD) this year attracted more than 2,000 people, bringing the total number of visitors to 21,000 in 5 years of organization.
This year’s event took place in November and December in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi. Thousands of participants came together to spark unique ideas, responding to the intersection of art and science under the theme “Intelligence and Technology”.

Professor Julia Gaimster - Head of the School of Communication and Design, RMIT University Vietnam, and head of the festival's organizing committee, said that creative industries such as fashion, cinema, game design, graphics, photography... are a major driving force for Vietnam's economic development.
"We will continue to strengthen the good partnership with the Vietnam National Institute of Culture and Arts Studies (VICAS) and UNESCO as well as all the creative units that have been accompanying to make this festival more successful," she added.
Within the framework of VFCD 2023, the organizers have carried out many activities revolving around creativity in technology. In particular, with the exhibition "Intelligence and Technology", participants can experience augmented reality (VR) technology, participate in online games to explore traditions in a modern way, and take a personality test to see which personality they are compatible with.
The "Playful Day" event series includes three main contents: the "Watch Play" exhibition, the "Listen Play" discussion, and the "Play Make Play" workshop. These activities have created a playground for creators, contributing to promoting the growth of the gaming industry in Vietnam.

The organizers also held a workshop on "Vietnam's advertising industry: Creating a unique identity". Through this, creative experts from advertising companies and brands such as Dentsu Redder, Ki Saigon, Happiness Saigon, Rockstar, P&G Vietnam... and many other partners participated in the discussion on creating a unique mark for this industry in the domestic market.
In addition, VFCD 2023 will feature a symposium on “Creating Cultural and Social Heritage for the Future”. International experts in architecture, art, design and photography will discuss Vietnam’s multifaceted future heritage and how deliberate actions today can shape it.
The Vietnam Festival of Creativity and Design was initiated in 2019 by RMIT University Vietnam in collaboration with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the Vietnam National Institute of Culture and Arts Studies and other partners in the creative industry. Hanoi Grapevine is the media sponsor and organizing consultant.
Over the past five years, the festival has created an open, highly interactive platform for students, professionals, artists and art lovers in general to keep up with trends in the creative field.
Looking back on this journey, Professor Julia Gaimster commented that this is not a destination and then stops. "Our role is to maintain the momentum and continue to create opportunities for young people to understand the impact and importance of creative industries to the Vietnamese economy," she said.
