A meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group (UDCG, also known as the Ramstein group) is likely to be held on the sidelines of a NATO defense ministers' meeting at the bloc's headquarters in Brussels, Belgium on October 17, a source in Brussels told Russian state news agency TASS.

TASS sources confirmed on October 9 that the Ramstein Group Summit, originally scheduled to take place at the Ramstein Air Base in Germany on October 12, was postponed due to changes in US President Joe Biden's plans.

"The Ramstein summit has been postponed due to changes in plans by some participants. The possibility of holding working-level consultations is currently being considered," the source in Brussels pointed out. "It is very likely that the meeting of arms donors to Ukraine will be held on the sidelines of the NATO ministerial meeting on October 17."

However, the TASS source also added that the Ramstein Summit "remains on the agenda" because "the US must formally hand over the coordination" of arms supplies to Kiev to NATO.

NATO has yet to officially comment on the situation.

On October 8, US President Joe Biden decided to postpone his visit to Germany and Angola, scheduled for October 10-15, due to the "once-in-a-century" superstorm Milton that is rapidly approaching Florida. Mr. Biden had planned to chair a meeting of the UDCG group in Germany.

The last time the Ukrainian Defense Contact Group met was on September 6, with the direct participation of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, where Kiev’s allies specifically discussed the provision of air defense systems to Ukraine.

The group, informally named after the US Ramstein air base in Germany, where the first meeting on military support for Kiev took place in April 2022, brings together about 50 countries, including most NATO members.
