The 0-3 defeat to Atalanta in the Europa League final in midweek did not derail Leverkusen's performance in the German Cup against Kaiserslautern. Coach Xabi Alonso's players dominated the game and opened the scoring after 16 minutes.

Patrik Schick and Florian Wirtz combined to make the Kaiserslautern defence struggle to contain. The ball bounced right into the path of Granit Xhaka and the midfielder unleashed a powerful shot from 25 metres, forcing goalkeeper Julian Krahl to stand his ground for the superb effort.

It seemed that Leverkusen would create a resounding victory, but they fell into a situation of being short-handed in the 44th minute. Defender Odilon Kossounou received a second yellow card after kicking an opponent's leg and was sent off.

However, Kaiserlaustern were stuck when they had one more player. Leverkusen defended the 1-0 score until the final whistle. Leverkusen could have even won by a bigger margin if Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz had not wasted their chances.

Leverkusen won the German Cup and completed the domestic double in the 2023/2024 season. Previously, coach Xabi Alonso and his team won the Bundesliga with an unbeaten record.

The French Cup final was Kylian Mbappe's farewell to PSG. Unfortunately, the 25-year-old star could not score as he was closely monitored by the Lyon defense.

But despite locking down Kylian Mbappe, Lyon's defense was still broken down by PSG's other attacks. Ousmane Dembele and Fabian Ruiz continuously broke Lyon's net within 12 minutes from 22 to 34.

After the break, Lyon reduced the score to 1-2 thanks to Jake O'Brien in the 55th minute. This goal made the second half very tense. However, PSG held on to win 2-1.

Coach Luis Enrique and his team won a hat-trick of domestic championships in the 2023/2024 season, including Ligue 1, the French Super Cup and the French Cup. Meanwhile, Kylian Mbappe had a beautiful farewell to PSG.

In the final round of La Liga, Real Madrid had an unsatisfactory warm-up before the European Cup final when they drew 0-0 with Real Betis. Notably, this was also the last match at the Bernabeu for midfielder Toni Kroos - who will retire after EURO 2024.

Results of some other notable matches on the night of May 25 and the morning of May 26: Atletico Madrid beat Sociedad 2-0 in La Liga, AC Milan drew 3-3 with Salernitana, Juventus defeated Monza 2-0 in Serie A.
