The Kate Festival 2024 will take place at the Po Sah Inư Tower relic (Ward 5, Phu Hai Ward, Phan Thiet City) on October 1-2. Up to now, the preparations for the festival are being urgently completed by units under the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the province.
Kate is the most unique folk festival of the Cham people following Brahmanism in Binh Thuan to commemorate the gods. This is also an occasion for Cham people from all over the country to return to reunite with their families, friends and clans. The festival takes place in a large space, starting from temples, towers to villages, clans and finally families.
To ensure the organization of the festival is in accordance with the law, in accordance with the national cultural traditions and to promote local tourism, the Provincial Museum has hung banners, banners, flags, etc. along Nguyen Thong Street leading to the relic and traffic routes in Phan Thiet. Cleaning up, ensuring environmental sanitation, pruning and taking care of trees in the relic area. At the same time, arranging an exhibition booth to introduce the national treasure Liga Vang and images of typical Cham artifacts, as well as arranging an area for artisans to perform pottery making, gingerbread making, and Cham brocade weaving. The Museum has also coordinated with the People's Committees of Ham Thuan Bac, Tuy Phong, Bac Binh, Ham Thuan Nam, Ham Tan and Tanh Linh districts to inspect and urge Cham people to form teams and practice to participate in folk games, competitions, performances and work at the festival.
Along with that, relevant units under the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism coordinated to prepare well the facilities, equipment, scripts, and Cham folk art performances to interact with the Cham people on the evening of October 1. It is expected that this year the number of Cham people and tourists will increase due to the announcement of the Prime Minister's decision to recognize national treasures, so the work of traffic flow, parking arrangement, security and order during the festival will also be arranged reasonably and tightened.
According to the festival program, from early morning on October 1, Cham dignitaries and people from Ham Thuan Bac, Bac Binh, Tuy Phong, Ham Thuan Nam, Tanh Linh and Ham Tan districts will move to the Po Sah Inư tower relic, then participate in the ritual of praying for peace, dancing, and inviting the Gods at the main tower performed by Cham Bani and Cham Brahman religious dignitaries of Ham Thuan Bac district. On the main festival day on October 2 (July 1 of the Cham calendar), there will be a ceremony to welcome the Po Sah Inư Goddess costume to the main tower, open the tower door, bathe the Linga - Yoni altar, wear the Linga - Yoni altar costume and a grand ceremony to thank the Po Sah Inư Goddess, the gods, grandparents and ancestors. In particular, there is also the announcement of the Prime Minister's decision on recognizing national treasures - batch 12, 2023 for the golden Linga discovered at Po Dam tower (Phu Lac commune, Tuy Phong district).
The festival includes exciting activities taking place on the main stage such as the Saranai trumpet blowing contest and the water team overcoming obstacles; decorating offerings on Thonla and Co Bong to worship Goddess Po Sah Inư. The folk art exchange program is performed by the Cham folk art troupe from Tuy Phong, Bac Binh, Ham Thuan Bac, Ham Thuan Nam, Ham Tan, Tanh Linh districts and the Bien Xanh Music and Dance Theater to serve the people and tourists.
With careful and thoughtful preparation, hopefully the Kate Festival will leave beautiful impressions in the hearts of people and tourists inside and outside the province.
