This afternoon (September 10), Director of the Vietnam Road Administration Bui Quang Thai and Deputy Director of the Traffic Police Department Pham Quang Huy inspected flood control work on the Phap Van - Cau Gie expressway.
According to the leader of BOT Phap Van - Cau Gie Joint Stock Company, this morning, at Km 191+200 in Van Binh commune, Thuong Tin district, the water was 50 - 60cm deep with a length of about 200m in all lanes.
Mr. Bui Quang Thai and leaders of the Traffic Police Department inspect the flooding situation on the Phap Van - Cau Gie highway.
Recognizing the initiative of the project investor and Road Management Area I in coordinating with the Traffic Police Department to closely monitor the situation, regulate and divide traffic, Mr. Thai requested to continue to focus on traffic regulation forces, ensuring safe traffic for vehicles.
Deeper flooding requires consideration of road closure.
According to Mr. Thai, the cause of flooding on the Phap Van - Cau Gie Expressway is that floodwaters in the downstream rivers rise, flooding the entire area, so drainage will be slow. Therefore, local drainage solutions are difficult to implement.
Investors need to study and evaluate the overall drainage capacity of the project. In case of having to solve the overall drainage of the area, they must thoroughly work with the local authorities.
In the immediate future, the investor will study the addition of drainage works and the possibility of drainage using local forced pumping stations. In case the flooding cannot be resolved, Mr. Thai will assign the investor to study the renovation of the works by raising the roadbed level of some essential sections.
Previously, due to prolonged rain and the impact of storm No. 3, the Phap Van - Cau Gie expressway was deeply flooded. Since early this morning (September 10), at Km 191+400 of the Phap Van expressway, water from the downstream area overflowed onto the expressway. Traffic police have been diverting traffic and temporarily banning vehicles from circulating to ensure safety.
From about 7:25 a.m., vehicles going from Phap Van to Cau Gie are arranged to turn around in front of the toll station (Km188).
In the Cau Gie - Phap Van direction, from about 7:50 a.m., the Van Diem area onto the highway was also closed to regulate traffic in the direction of National Highway 1.
By early afternoon, the flooding on the Phap Van - Cau Gie Expressway had decreased, although some sections were still flooded about 10cm deep, but vehicles were able to travel on the route. Many drivers who regularly travel on this route said that the consequences of storm No. 3 were too severe, this expressway had never been flooded as deep as 50cm.
