Help as much as you can
100 VND, equivalent to the value of a can, bottle of recyclable waste material. This is also the origin of the youth project launched and implemented by Tan Thanh Commune Youth Union from May 2022. The Commune Youth Union has built 3 locations for the "100 VND House" at convenient locations in the villages of Dak Na, Dak Ri and Dak Hoa for Youth Union members and people to collect and donate bottles, cans, and recyclable plastic materials generated from daily life. The Commune Youth Union also links the collection of recyclable waste with volunteer programs and activities of the Youth Union organization. In addition, in order for the project to be effective, Tan Thanh Commune Youth Union and its branches have done a good job of propaganda and raising the responsibility of cadres and Youth Union members in implementing the model. Since then, the project has gradually attracted the attention and support of Youth Union members, spreading to relatives and local communities.
Mr. Nguyen Chi Tam, a member of the Tan Thanh Commune Youth Union (Krong No) said: “As a young person, I also want to do something to contribute to the locality, to the children here. When the commune union launched the project, I found it very interesting and meaningful, so I actively participated in supporting it, going with young people to collect and sort bottles to raise funds to visit and give gifts to poor families. Although the value is not much, it is a joy to share, to help people as much as possible.”
People are very supportive
Not only do they receive scrap at the points, the Youth Union members also actively go to people’s homes to collect and bring it to the collection points. About once every 1 to 2 months, when a relatively large amount of bottles and plastic waste has accumulated, the “100 Dong Houses” in Tan Thanh commune are classified and sold to raise funds.
Mr. Nguyen Van Be, in Dak Ri village, Tan Thanh commune confided: “The commune group organized a project to collect discarded plastic items, to keep the environment green, clean and beautiful, and I and the people really support it. Sometimes it is also a joy, my family sells drinks at a shop, when people come to drink, I also share and ask for bottles to contribute to the "100 Dong House". Wherever I go, I always remember, when I see empty bottles, I pick them up to protect the aesthetics, keep the environment clean, and contribute to the fund to help families in difficulty".
To date, the “100 Dong Houses” of Tan Thanh Commune’s youth have collected tens of thousands of cans and plastic materials, creating a fund of nearly 10 million VND. With this amount, the Commune Youth Union has purchased 12 gifts, worth 300,000 VND each, to give to families in difficult circumstances and people with serious illnesses in the area. The Commune Youth Union also allocated 5 million VND to lend to young people to start businesses.
Mr. Dang Phuc Xuan, Secretary of Tan Thanh Commune Youth Union shared: “After the implementation process, I am very happy because the project received enthusiastic support from the Youth Union and local people, especially grocery store owners and families organizing parties who enthusiastically supported cans and jars. In the coming time, the Commune Youth Union will continue to maintain and further promote the effectiveness of the project to be able to help many difficult circumstances in the locality.”
