Spreading images of homeland from a cheap phone

In the modern flow, when young people are increasingly caught up in new technology trends, there is an 11th grade student who still travels tirelessly throughout provinces and cities, capturing historical and cultural imprints with his ordinary phone. That is Dang Hoang Minh (born in 2008), currently living in Binh Chanh district, Ho Chi Minh City (his paternal and maternal hometowns are in Can Giuoc district, Long An province).

Minh's special passion for " red addresses " and ancient architectural works came to him by chance in the summer of 10th grade. When flipping through the history books of the South from his father's bookshelf, Minh realized that this land had fascinating stories, but when searching online, he found that the images of these places were not really rich. From then on, Minh cherished the plan to go to these places himself, record the most authentic photos to spread more widely.

In the summer of 10th grade, Minh started his first trip to the Hundred Pillar House (Long Huu Dong Commune, Can Duoc District). From there, he continued to travel, exploring many new lands without fear of difficulties. To date, Minh has set foot in nearly 20 provinces and cities across the country, including 13/13 provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta.

"As a student, my priority is studying, so I can only take advantage of the opportunity on weekends, holidays or summer to explore the relics. My parents do not forbid me, but only remind me to be careful when traveling. My goal this summer in grade 11 is to explore some more provinces, bringing the number of provinces and cities explored to 30," Minh said.

What is special is that all of Minh's photo collections were taken with a phone that costs only nearly 6 million VND. Minh does not use a professional camera, but thanks to self-studying about image composition and image editing on software, he is still able to create impressive photos.

His works were then posted on Google Maps , Pinterest, Facebook, TikTok and YouTube to spread to the community. On Google Maps alone, in less than a year, Minh's contributions have attracted more than 352,000 views.

Minh’s most recent trip was to an ancient house nearly 100 years old in Phuoc Loi commune, Ben Luc district. Minh shared: “The house is gradually being forgotten over time. The inscription on the main door arch reads 1930, which means it is now 95 years old. The caretaker of the house said that there has not been any significant renovation because the descendants of the previous owner have moved to another place. There is not much information about this house in the media either.”

It is known that the photo series of this house has attracted great attention on social networks.

Huynh Cong Ngu ancient house (Phuoc Loi commune, Ben Luc district) is gradually being forgotten. Thanks to Hoang Minh's photo series, many people have known about this place.

Not only does Minh record the beauty of his homeland, he also wants to help people, especially young people, understand more about history. Minh said: “I feel very happy when I read comments praising the beautiful photos, some people even ask for directions to the location where I took the photos. That is the motivation for me to continue.”

However, when faced with negative comments about history or political sensitivity, Minh often ignores or deletes them because he understands that he is still young and does not have enough political awareness to discuss these issues.

Minh's dream is to pursue a career in graphic design. He hopes to combine technology with his current passion in the future to continue spreading historical images to more people. His dedication and love for cultural and historical values are the driving force that helps him continuously explore and share.

From a high school student with an ordinary phone, Minh has proven that with passion, effort, love for the homeland and country as well as a spirit of dedication, each person can contribute to spreading good values to the community in many different ways./.
