On March 11, Dr. Nguyen Thanh Truc, principal of Tay Nguyen University, said that he had sent a document to the Dak Lak Provincial People's Committee requesting the expansion of the eligible tenants to avoid waste, because the university's medical dormitory currently only has 5 students.
This 5-storey dormitory, nearly 3,000 square meters wide, is located in the center of Tan Thanh Ward (Buon Ma Thuot City), invested and put into use since 2013, with a budget of 35 billion VND from government bonds. With 120 rooms, this dormitory serves the needs of 900-1,000 medical students studying at Tay Nguyen University. However, the number of students coming to stay has gradually decreased, especially from 2019 to present and currently 5 students live in 2 rooms.
According to Mr. Truc, the dormitory was built to serve the living, accommodation and study needs of nearly 1,000 medical students of the school. Especially the 5th and 6th year students often have to work overnight at the hospital. Therefore, the dormitory was built quite close to Dak Lak Provincial General Hospital (now renamed Tay Nguyen General Hospital) to facilitate the students' internship at this hospital.

In early 2019, the Central Highlands General Hospital was relocated to a new headquarters, about 5km from the dormitory. At that time, the road to the hospital was difficult and there were few people passing by, so students left the dormitory to stay near the hospital for more convenient and safe internships. To avoid rooms that were unoccupied for a long time and were wasteful, the school flexibly rented them to civil servants, officers, and workers.
According to Mr. Truc, the rent from the school dormitory covers security guards, maintenance, and repair of items if they are degraded or damaged.
"According to current regulations, state-invested dormitories allow all students who need to rent accommodation to attend school. Therefore, the school has proposed that the Dak Lak Provincial People's Committee allow expansion to students from other majors to rent in the school's medical dormitory so that the project does not go to waste or deteriorate," said Mr. Truc.
