Celebrating the 60th anniversary of the liberation of Ky Xuan commune (Tam Giang commune)

Exactly 60 years ago, at 1:30 p.m. on November 7, 1964, under the direction of the Nam Tam Ky District Party Committee, the armed forces closely coordinated with the people of Ky Xuan to attack and rise up to liberate the entire Ky Xuan commune. This event marked an important historical milestone, having a decisive significance in the transformation of the local revolutionary movement, and at the same time dealt a surprise blow to the area the enemy considered their safe base.

On the evening of November 7, 1964, Ky Xuan commune organized a rally with thousands of people attending to celebrate the victory. At the rally, the revolution announced the order to abolish the puppet army and puppet government established by the enemy; declared the establishment of a revolutionary government of the people with comrade Tran Kich as chairman, introduced the guerrilla platoon, called on the people to unite to build a new regime, at the same time build fighting villages and communes, and combine with the armed forces to fight against the enemy's counterattacks to protect the revolutionary achievements that had just been won.

Through two resistance wars against invaders, the people of Ky Xuan not only stayed to defend the village, sheltered revolutionary cadres and soldiers, protected important provincial agencies and leaders such as comrade Vo Toan (aka Vo Chi Cong), Nguyen Sac Kim... but also had more than 200 cadres escape and 804 young people join the army to fight on all battlefields; at the same time, contributed a lot of food, provisions, and money to the resistance.

The locality was recognized by the Party and State with 497 martyrs, 86 wounded and sick soldiers, 1,127 families and individuals with revolutionary contributions, 75 mothers were awarded the title of "Heroic Vietnamese Mother", 8 "Heroes of the People's Armed Forces"; 1,538 individuals, families and collectives were awarded medals, badges, and commemorative medals "Revolutionary soldiers imprisoned by the enemy"...

In particular, on August 30, 1995, the Party Committee, government and people of Tam Giang commune were honored to be awarded the noble title "Hero of the People's Armed Forces" by the Party and State.

Sixty years since the liberation, Tam Giang commune has been constantly developing. The main road DH4 is 3.7km long and 10.5m wide and is paved; the main canal system N54 and N54-1 leads water from Thai Xuan Lake across the Truong Giang River to bring fresh water to irrigate the fields, bringing a new vitality to revive agriculture...

Up to now, the total number of offshore fishing boats is 44 with a total capacity of 42,500CV; total catch increased from 200 tons in 1976 to 11,516 tons in 2023; production value increased from 86 billion VND in 2009 to 455.2 billion VND in 2023, creating jobs for nearly 1,800 workers inside and outside the commune. The aquaculture land area is more than 166 hectares, in 2023 the aquaculture output reached 1,150 tons, the estimated value reached 187 billion VND.

Culture - society, national defense - security have many positive changes. Tam Giang commune was recognized by the Provincial People's Committee as meeting the new rural commune standards in 2017 and meeting the advanced new rural commune standards in 2022.
