Simple and affectionate neighbor
Sitting in a small house, attentively watching the news bulletin announcing the passing of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, Ninh Xuan Manh and his wife Duong Thi Phuong at 9 Thien Quang Street, Hai Ba Trung District, Hanoi, had tears in their eyes.
Mr. Manh and his wife live just one house away from the General Secretary's house.
“When the General Secretary was still healthy, he often visited my house. Although he was a high-ranking leader and my wife and I were ordinary people, we were very close. Knowing that life and old age are inevitable, I was very sad and sorry to hear that he had passed away,” said Mr. Manh, wiping away tears.
Since the evening of July 19, after news of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong's passing, many people on Thien Quang Street have focused their eyes on the official residence No. 5 - where General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong's family lives.
Sharing with reporters, many residents expressed their feelings of loss and sadness upon hearing the news that the General Secretary - a loyal neighbor of the neighborhood - had just passed away.

Talking about memorable memories with the General Secretary, Ms. Phuong said that in 2017, when the residential group organized a national solidarity festival, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong attended and met with the people.
“That time, I and many other people had a chance to chat intimately and take photos with Uncle Trong. He was very simple, cheerful, and friendly with everyone. I still remember his witty joke with the people in the neighborhood group that “actually, I also told people to maintain security and order, but I was the one who… caused the most disorder in this neighborhood, because sometimes at 3-4am, people came to the gate to call me for help,” Ms. Phuong said.
As next-door neighbors, Mr. Manh and his wife seem to be familiar with the sound of the General Secretary's old car and the time he goes to work and comes home.
“Every time I hear the sound of a car, I know Uncle Trong is coming home from work. It feels like my father is coming home from work,” said Ms. Phuong, adding that “hearing the news of Uncle Trong’s death really saddens me, it feels like I’ve lost a close relative.”
Sitting in her small house, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Hiep (75 years old) was also on the verge of tears: “Uncle Trong is a devoted person, devoted to the country, the people, serving the Party and the people until his last breath, without a single day of rest. He is a person trusted by the people, a respected leader.”
According to Ms. Hiep, the people in Thien Quang street really love the General Secretary, "a neighbor who, although a high-ranking official, is very close and sociable with the people."

The passing of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong is a great loss, especially during the preparation period for the 14th National Party Congress.

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Trung Duc - Political Commissar of Battalion DK1 - Naval Region 2 Command
As a Vietnamese citizen and an officer of the Vietnam People's Navy on duty, managing and protecting the rigs on the southern continental shelf of the Fatherland, I feel very sad and sorry that our people and our country have lost a staunch communist.
General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has made tireless contributions to the Party, the country, and the people and has left many valuable lessons for present and future generations.
I myself promise to always thoroughly understand and educate all cadres and soldiers in the unit about the ideology, style and standards of the General Secretary, especially the spirit of 7 dares: "dare to think, dare to speak, dare to do, dare to take responsibility, dare to innovate, dare to face difficulties and challenges and dare to act for the common good".
At the same time, believe in the absolute leadership of the Party; strive to study, practice, and firmly protect the sovereignty of the sea, islands, and continental shelf of the Fatherland.

Mr. Nguyen Phu Trong studied at the same school as me, but he studied 3 years ahead of me. In 2001, Mr. Trong became the Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee and Chairman of the 2nd Central Theoretical Council. I had the opportunity to meet him as a member of the council.
I often work with and listen to his instructions through council meetings. I feel that the General Secretary is a very elegant and intellectual person. He expresses profound issues very gently without being too “big-headed”.
He always directed everyone to "play their roles and learn their lessons". There were many instructions, but he focused on the essentials of socialism and the path to socialism.
Although he is a native of Hanoi, he still understands Ho Chi Minh City very well. He always reminds Ho Chi Minh City how to maintain its leading role in economic development. I always remember his words when he came to Ho Chi Minh City: "In the whole country, only this city has the honor of being named after Uncle Ho."
Ho Chi Minh City will also consider the General Secretary's instructions as a profound reminder on its path to development.

As someone who has lived in the forest land of Ca Mau for decades, I was so surprised and saddened to hear of the passing of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
Uncle Trong has left a deep impression on the people, and their trust in Party building. He has sown trust in the people, but now that he is gone, I feel infinite regret.
Even though we know that everyone has to go through birth, aging, sickness and death, we still feel regret and loss.

Hearing the news of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong’s passing, I was very sad, moved and missed him. Not only was he a leader of the Party, State, politics and economy, the General Secretary was also a leader who paid great attention to the cultural field.
What impressed me most was the National Cultural Conference chaired by the General Secretary in 2021 to revive the country's culture. After the National Cultural Conference in 1946, this was the second time such a conference had been held.
At the conference, the General Secretary said that recently there were no good songs while in the war-torn country there were many good songs. That made the artists, including me, feel excited, look back, and think about how to make the work better, to research, explore, and be more creative.

During his lifetime, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong often mentioned President Ho Chi Minh's saying "Culture guides the nation". Building Vietnamese people in the new era, besides cultural factors, physical development and health improvement are extremely important.
All those who work in sports are imbued with two noble goals. First, sports must contribute to the physical development of Vietnamese people. Second, strive and make every effort to achieve high results in the international arena.
Generations of athletes, coaches, professional staff, and sports managers have always followed the example of spirit, ideology, will, determination, and lifelong dedication to the Party and the country of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
In the field of sports, serving the people and contributing to the Fatherland means dedicating oneself to improving people's health. In high-performance sports, it means working hard to sweat on the training floor, trying one's best to win prestigious medals for the Fatherland.
The passing of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong leaves behind grief for the people and the country, including those working in the sports field.
