On the afternoon of March 5, at Can Tho Stadium, the second round of the qualifying round for the Southwest region, the 2nd Vietnam Youth Student Football Tournament - 2024 THACO Cup took place.
The first match was between Tay Do University and FPT University Can Tho. In the first half, the two teams played an attacking game, FPT University Can Tho was lucky to open the scoring after an own goal by the goalkeeper of Tay Do University in the 16th minute. Just 3 minutes later, Tay Do University equalized from the 11m mark. Before the end of the first half, FPT University Can Tho unexpectedly took the lead 2-1.

In the second half, Tay Do University players rose up and quickly leveled the score. Towards the end of the match, Tay Do University played better, especially number 16 Vo Huynh Phuoc and number 21 Thai Trung Thuc. These two players scored consecutive doubles to help Tay Do University make a spectacular comeback, winning 5-2 against FPT University Can Tho. With this victory, in group 2, Tay Do University has 3 points equal to Tra Vinh University, but is inferior to Tra Vinh University in terms of head-to-head record after losing 0-1 in the opening match.
In the second match, there was a fierce battle between two teams in Group 1, the visiting team Cuu Long University and the host team Nam Can Tho University. In the first minutes, Nam Can Tho University attacked and created an overwhelming position. However, the tenacity and physical play of Cuu Long University was soon brought into play when, right at the beginning of the second half, Nguyen Hoang Minh (11) had an aerial header to open the score for the away team.
After the opening match failure, Cuu Long University team won 2-0 against the host Nam Can Tho University and continued to nurture hope.
Being behind, Nam Can Tho University pressed forward to attack but could not score a goal. In the first minute of extra time, Nguyen Hoang Minh (11) had a close-range shot to complete his double and set the score at 2-0 for Cuu Long University.

With this victory, Cuu Long University has 3 points like Can Tho University but has a worse head-to-head record when losing 0-1 to Can Tho University in the first round. Thus, the situation of group 1 and group 2 in the Western region will have to wait for the match between Nam Can Tho University and Can Tho University; Tra Vinh University and FPT University Can Tho in the last round.
