Prosecution of the accused of fraud in booking tourist rooms on Co To island

On June 22, the Investigation Police Agency of Quang Ninh Province issued a decision to prosecute the case, prosecute the accused and execute a 2-month detention order against Pham Trung Anh (30 years old, residing in Hamlet 5, An Bo, Dung Tien Commune, Vinh Bao District, Hai Phong City) for the crime of fraud and property appropriation.

Previously, on June 13, Co To District Police received a complaint from Ms. D.TNA (residing in Phu Ly City, Ha Nam) about being scammed by a subject for booking a hotel room and train tickets to Co To island district.

According to the complaint, on June 12, Ms. NA used her personal Facebook account to post in the group "Review Co To Tat Tan Tan" to book a room in Co To District.

After that, Ms. NA received a phone call from a man introducing hotel rooms and train tickets to Co To. Believing this person, Ms. NA booked 6 rooms and 11 round-trip train tickets from Van Don to Co To; and transferred 3 times, with more than 8.8 million VND to the account number under the name of Pham Trung Anh. After receiving the money, this person did not fulfill the agreement and blocked all communication with Ms. NA.

Through professional measures, Quang Ninh Provincial Police verified that Pham Trung Anh was the person who defrauded Ms. NA of her money. Working with the investigation agency, Pham Trung Anh confessed that because he was unemployed and needed money for personal expenses, he had the idea of accessing travel pages and groups on Facebook to commit fraud and appropriate tourists' property.

Trung Anh also confessed that from around June 2022 until now, he has used many Facebook and Zalo accounts such as "Tuong Anh", "Bong Bong", "Pham Quyet", "Tran Quang Anh" with the above tricks, defrauding and appropriating the property of many victims, with a total amount of about 100 million VND.

Quang Ninh Provincial Police call on those who have been victims to proactively contact the Quang Ninh Provincial Police Investigation Agency for resolution.
