On November 29, the Investigation Police Agency of Yen Bai Province Police issued a decision to prosecute and arrest two suspects, reporters of the Vietnam Business and Border Trade Magazine, for the crime of "Extortion of property".
The above decisions and procedural orders have all been approved by the People's Procuracy of Yen Bai province in accordance with the provisions of law.
The two defendants are: Nong Van Dung (born in 1984, residing in Residential Group No. 1, An Chau town, Son Dong district, Bac Giang province) and Nguyen Hoai Nam (born in 1989, residing in Residential Group No. 15, Doi Can ward, Tuyen Quang city, Tuyen Quang province).

Previously, on November 22, representatives of a number of business establishments in Yen Bai city (Yen Bai province) sent a criminal complaint to the Criminal Police Department of the provincial police to report that they were threatened and intimidated by two subjects claiming to be “journalists” and demanded that they give them money, otherwise, the subjects would post articles reflecting information that is detrimental to the operations of these business establishments in the Vietnam Business and Border Trade Magazine.
After a period of inspection and verification, at 3:20 p.m. the same day, in Thanh Hung village (Tan Thinh commune, Yen Bai city, Yen Bai province), the Working Group of the Criminal Police Department of the Provincial Police discovered and recorded the incident in which two reporters Nong Van Dung and Nguyen Hoai Nam were receiving 15 million VND from Mr. D.CC (manager of a business establishment in Yen Bai city).
The case is being further investigated by the Investigation Police Agency of Yen Bai Province Police to clarify the criminal acts of the defendants and other related subjects for strict handling according to the provisions of law.
To serve the investigation requirements of the case and ensure the rights of the victims according to the provisions of law, the Investigation Police Agency of Yen Bai Provincial Police requests that anyone who has been threatened or had their property appropriated by the above defendants immediately contact the Criminal Police Department of Yen Bai Provincial Police (address: Luong Thinh village, Tan Thinh commune, Yen Bai city, Yen Bai province; phone number: 0692.509.358 or contact Investigator Nguyen Tien Vinh, phone number: 0917.888.027) to coordinate the resolution.
