"Compatriotism, national love" - Uncle Ho's advice still echoes forever

On February 10, 1947, in the midst of the fierce and fierce resistance war, to call on the entire population to support the resistance, the Ministry of Agriculture organized a Landlord Conference at the house of Mr. Quach Dinh Hy (at that time he was the Chairman of the Commune Administrative Resistance Committee) in Sao Thuong village, Lang Phong commune. The conference was honored to welcome Uncle Ho to attend and give a speech.

Speaking at the Conference, he clearly explained to the delegates why we must both fight the war and build the nation. He emphasized that at this time we must uphold the sentiment of compatriots and nationalism, not only helping the displaced people have food and shelter but also helping them have jobs to make a living.

Understanding President Ho Chi Minh's instructions, the delegates, the landlords in general and the people of Lang Phong commune in particular helped the displaced people stabilize their lives and carry out production, contributing to the victory of the resistance war against the French colonialists.

Comrade Le Thi Hoa, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Lang Phong Commune Party Committee, said: His advice on patriotism and national love has always been the guiding principle for the activities of the Party Committee, government and people of Lang Phong. The spirit of solidarity, love and mutual assistance in times of difficulty and adversity has become a cultural beauty of the people of Lang Phong, thereby promoting the combined strength of the entire political system, the unity and solidarity of the whole society to better care for the lives of the poor.

Accordingly, to help poor households, the Front,
Socio-political organizations and mass organizations have promoted emulation movements to follow Uncle Ho's teachings through specific actions such as: mobilizing women members to raise piggy banks to help poor women; farmer members to build good production and business models, helping each other reduce poverty; the Youth Union coordinates with the Veterans Association to implement the program "Building a young generation with patriotism, revolutionary ideals, a beautiful lifestyle, and Vietnamese cultural qualities"; the movement "For the poor - Leaving no one behind"...

As a testament to the spirit of solidarity, mutual love and support of the people, the Standing Deputy Secretary of the Commune Party Committee led us to visit the family of Ms. La Thi Nguyet, 69 years old, Tam Dong village - one of the poor households receiving support to repair their houses.

The day we visited, the family was dismantling and repairing the roof. Many villagers joined in helping the construction team quickly complete the repair of Mrs. Nguyet's house.

While quickly passing bricks to help the workers, Ms. Hoang Thi Luy, Party Cell Secretary, Head of the Front Work Committee of Tam Dong village shared: The poor families are all mobilized by the Party Cell, the government, the Fatherland Front and organizations in the village to mobilize members and people to participate in helping in many forms such as: helping with working days, helping with trees, seeds and guiding them on how to do business so that they can gradually escape poverty. This is also the way that each person in Tam Dong village specifically learns and follows Uncle Ho's spirit of compassion and mutual love, especially his advice when visiting Lang Phong about compatriotism and national love.

Lang Phong's development
People of Tam Dong village joined in supporting Mrs. La Thi Nguyet's family to repair their house.

With the support and assistance of the Party Committee, the government, socio-political organizations, and philanthropists, the spirit of solidarity and the tradition of "helping each other" have been promoted, thereby arousing in each poor person the sense of self-reliance and constant efforts to improve their lives. Up to now, the poverty rate of Lang Phong commune is only 0.7%.

Together to build a new life

In 2014, Lang Phong commune was the first commune in Nho Quan district to reach the goal of building a new rural area. Promoting the achievements, with a strong will and aspiration to rise up, Lang Phong has had many good and flexible ways, thereby exploiting the potential and advantages and mobilizing the solidarity and unanimity of the people to work towards the goal of building a new and better life.

The Standing Deputy Secretary of the Lang Phong Commune Party Committee shared: Lang Phong is located in a semi-mountainous area in the depression of the Nam Can dike, so there is no other potential than fields and people. Accordingly, the Party Committee and the People's Committee of the commune have focused on leading and directing the exploitation of land and labor potential, applying technical advances to production; encouraging people to change crop structure, bringing high-value crops and livestock into production, increasing income per hectare of cultivation; building and replicating economic models for high efficiency. This policy of the commune has been supported by the people. Farmers of Lang Phong commune have made fundamental changes in awareness, enthusiastically accepting science and technology, daring to think, daring to do, daring to experiment with new advances.

Up to now, the commune has converted more than 26 hectares of low-lying land (Trang An and Bach Hoan villages) from ineffective rice cultivation to aquaculture with an income of 400-500 million VND/ha. In the area, many effective economic models have appeared, such as: pigeon farming model with an income of 300-400 million VND; grass carp farming model with an income of about 1.2 billion VND/ha; cooperative model for production and consumption of safe agricultural products of the Farmers' Association; giant freshwater prawn farming model with an income of over 400 million VND/ha... In addition, the commune has created all conditions for the development of secondary industries such as food processing, mechanics, masonry, carpentry and various types of commercial services... to gradually improve the lives of the people.

Along with that, implementing the National Target Program on New Rural Construction, with the motto "using the people's strength to beautify the people", the commune has taken advantage of the State's support resources and mobilized people's contributions to invest in building and upgrading the infrastructure system, in which people have voluntarily donated land and thousands of working days to build roads.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy Nguyet, Lang Phong commune said: In 2023, when the commune had a policy of mobilizing people's contributions along with the State's cement support to upgrade and expand the Tam Dong village road, the villagers were very supportive. My family as well as households living on both sides of the road voluntarily donated land. Some people donated at least 10 square meters, many up to dozens of square meters. Up to now, the village road has been widened from 2m to 5m and upgraded with concrete, making people's travel much more convenient, we are very excited.

Along with economic development, the cultural and social activities of the commune have also made much progress, cultural and artistic clubs, sports and physical training clubs operate regularly, attracting the participation of a large number of people. The quality of education for students at all levels in the area is increasing, the system of school facilities and medical stations is invested in synchronously and upgraded to meet standards.

Promoting the achievements, the Party Committee and People of Lang Phong commune have strived, mobilized resources and after 8 years of implementing, maintaining, consolidating and improving the quality of new rural criteria, by December 2022, Lang Phong commune was recognized by the Provincial People's Committee as a commune meeting the advanced New Rural standards.

Up to now, 3/9 villages of the commune have been recognized as meeting the standards of a model new rural village. The average income per capita has reached over 64 million VND/year. The rural appearance in Lang Phong is increasingly improving, people's lives are increasingly prosperous and happy, thereby further strengthening the people's trust in the Party committees and authorities at all levels.
