Speaking at the opening ceremony, Vice Chairman of Quang Ngai Provincial People's Committee Vo Phien expressed his joy that the PP&PA-24 Program was held in Quang Ngai, creating conditions to strengthen and promote cooperation in the fields of: training, capacity building in the health sector; humanitarian assistance and disaster relief; support for minor repairs of schools and health stations; community exchange activities in arts and sports...
“These activities once again contribute to enhancing mutual understanding, solidarity and international cooperation for peace, friendly cooperation and sustainable development,” shared the Vice Chairman of Quang Ngai People's Committee.
According to Mr. Vo Phien, Quang Ngai is located in an area heavily affected by natural disasters and climate change, which has greatly affected people's lives and production and business activities in the province.
Therefore, improving skills in responding to, preventing and overcoming the consequences of natural disasters is extremely necessary, helping to minimize the negative impacts caused by natural disasters and climate change.
The focus of this year's event will be on health missions, recognizing the fundamental need to improve the health of communities, said U.S. Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City Susan Burns.
American and Vietnamese doctors and nurses will work together throughout the deployment. U.S. Navy and Air Force engineers will assist in renovating schools and clinics, conduct humanitarian assistance and disaster response training, as well as conduct aviation medical exchanges, perform concerts, and participate in community engagement activities throughout Quang Ngai Province.
Several international partners are also supporting the operation, including surgeons from Australia, the UK and Chile who will be performing the surgeries. Pacific Partnership and Pacific Angels are a testament to the region’s best working together to deliver humanitarian assistance.
According to US Navy Captain Daniel J. Keeler - PP&PA-24 Program Commander, the launch of the Pacific Partnership and Pacific Angel 2024 Program marks the beginning of a new effort to strengthen the relationship between the two countries.
The opening ceremony also included a music exchange program and performances by the Pacific Fleet Band and the Provincial Cultural and Arts Center; and a welcoming ceremony by the host locality according to the Pacific Partnership Program and Pacific Angel.
The PP&PA-24 program in Quang Ngai province takes place from August 19 to 30, 2024, with about 60 activities in 5 areas: communication, health, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, construction, and community exchange.
Pacific Partnership is a multinational humanitarian assistance and training program initiated by the United States Government. Pacific Angel is a joint and combined humanitarian assistance operation led by the United States Air Force in the Pacific.
This is the first time that the US Pacific Command has coordinated with partners to implement the PP&PA Program in parallel in a locality of Vietnam; one of the foreign affairs activities to implement the Joint Statement on upgrading Vietnam - US relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in October 2023.
