National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon agreed to expand cooperation in new areas such as climate change response, equitable energy transition, and green economy.
On the morning of February 27, at the National Assembly House, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man had a meeting with New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon on the occasion of the Prime Minister's official visit to Vietnam and attendance at the second ASEAN Future Forum.
National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man welcomed Prime Minister Christopher Luxon and the New Zealand delegation to pay an official visit to Vietnam and attend the second ASEAN Future Forum; emphasizing that this is an important visit on the occasion of the two countries celebrating the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations (1975-2025).
Prime Minister Christopher Luxon expressed his gratitude for the warm and friendly reception that the National Assembly Chairman as well as the Vietnamese leaders and people have given to the Prime Minister and the New Zealand delegation since their visit to Vietnam; congratulated Vietnam on its outstanding socio-economic development achievements, and assessed Vietnam as a bright spot in the region in both economic development and ensuring social justice.
National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man expressed his satisfaction with the continuous development of the bilateral relationship over the past 50 years, saying that upgrading the relationship to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership is an important historical milestone, marking the 50-year development of bilateral relations as well as opening a new phase, a phase of deeper, more trustworthy and strategic cooperation.
The National Assembly Chairman highly appreciated the results of the discussions between Prime Minister Christopher Luxon and Vietnamese leaders, expressing his belief that the two countries will continue to closely coordinate and concretize the high-level agreements reached as well as the contents of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in the coming time.
National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man was pleased to see that the cooperation between the two countries' parliaments is very close, contributing positively to the common achievements both bilaterally and at multilateral parliamentary forums; affirming that the Vietnamese National Assembly will continue to strongly support the implementation of cooperation programs and agreements between the two countries in the coming time.
The two leaders agreed to continue to enhance exchanges and experiences between high-level delegations, ministries, sectors, localities, and organizations, including the Committees and Friendship Parliamentarians' Groups of the two countries; and expand cooperation in new areas such as climate change response, equitable energy transition, green economy, and smart agriculture adapting to climate change.
The New Zealand Prime Minister affirmed that he will continue to support Vietnam in improving the quality of high-value agricultural products for export, implementing projects to respond to climate change, helping to train English for Vietnamese resource officials, and encouraging major New Zealand universities to strengthen links with Vietnamese universities to meet Vietnam's need for developing high-quality human resources.
The two sides agreed to continue to coordinate and support each other at regional and international forums. The New Zealand Prime Minister affirmed his strong support for ASEAN's central role and looked forward to the early establishment of the ASEAN-New Zealand Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
On this occasion, the National Assembly Chairman sent his regards and invited National Assembly Chairman Gerry Brownlee to soon pay an official visit to Vietnam. The New Zealand Prime Minister also expressed his wish to soon welcome the National Assembly Chairman to pay an official visit to New Zealand in the near future./.
