Construction of the memorial project for Hero Phan Dinh Giot in Ha Tinh began

The launching ceremony of the tree planting festival, Youth Month and the groundbreaking ceremony of the Phan Dinh Giot memorial project organized by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment in coordination with the Provincial People's Committee and Ha Tinh Provincial Youth Union is a series of practical activities to celebrate major political events in 2024.

On the morning of February 25, in Cam Xuyen district, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment coordinated with the Provincial People's Committee and the Ha Tinh Provincial Youth Union to organize a ceremony to launch the Giap Thin Spring Tree Planting Festival, Youth Month 2024 and start construction of a memorial project for People's Armed Forces Hero Phan Dinh Giot.

The program aims to respond to the policy of planting one billion trees "For a green Vietnam" launched by the Government; towards the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7, 1954 - May 7, 2024), commemorating the 70th anniversary of the sacrifice of People's Armed Forces Hero Phan Dinh Giot (March 13, 1954 - March 13, 2024); celebrating the 93rd anniversary of the founding of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (March 26, 1931 - March 26, 2024).

Attending the program were Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Dang Quoc Khanh, Chairman of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly Nguyen Thanh Binh, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper Phan Van Hung, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Le Thanh Cong, Vice Chairman of Dien Bien Provincial People's Committee Lo Van Tien.

On the side of Ha Tinh province, there were: Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Hoang Trung Dung, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Vo Trong Hai, Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Mass Mobilization Commission Truong Thanh Huyen, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Ngoc Chau and representatives of departments, branches, and localities.

Speaking at the program, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Dang Quoc Khanh emphasized: After 3 years of implementing the Project of planting one billion trees, the whole country has planted nearly 770 million new trees with a total mobilized capital of nearly 9,500 billion VND. To implement the Tet tree planting program this year, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and Ha Tinh province have chosen Cam Xuyen district - a locality with diverse and unique natural landscapes, many hills, mountains, rivers, lakes, plains and coastal strips to implement.

Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Dang Quoc Khanh called on all levels, sectors and all people to enthusiastically participate in tree planting and afforestation; raise awareness and take effective measures to protect forests; increase investment, apply science and technology, create support mechanisms, and encourage sustainable forest economic development.

Speaking in response to the launch of Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Dang Quoc Khanh, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Ngoc Chau requested units and localities to actively coordinate in planting, caring for, and protecting trees and the environment.

In order to create a peak emulation period among the province's youth, on this occasion, the Ha Tinh Provincial Youth Union launched a campaign to respond to the Giap Thin Spring Tree Planting Festival and Youth Month 2024 with the theme "Youth volunteers for community life".

The Ha Tinh Provincial Youth Union Executive Committee requested that all levels of the Youth Union continue to innovate and improve the quality of propaganda and education work; closely follow the plan, targets, content and theme of Youth Month to select and allocate appropriate content and activities at each time, object and field; pay attention to supporting young people to start businesses...

At the program, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment presented the Provincial Youth Union, Cam Xuyen district and Cam Quan commune with 120,000 casuarina trees, 300 Bauhinia trees, and 1,000 plastic lanes to build a "People's market model to reduce plastic waste".

... and presented 30 bicycles and gifts to disadvantaged students with good academic achievements in Cam Xuyen district.

Implementing the theme of "Year of Youth Volunteers", Ha Tinh Provincial Youth Union coordinated with BIDV to support 700 million VND to build a "school for children"; coordinated with Giang Nam Petroleum Company to donate 5,000 bottles of free engine oil to people in difficult circumstances with a total value of 550 million VND; donated 1 solar power line worth 125 million VND and 160 environmental protection trash cans worth 160 million VND to districts, towns, city unions and affiliated unions.

Ha Tinh Provincial Youth Union also awarded preferential capital from the National Employment Fund to district, town and city youth unions with a total value of 1 billion VND to accompany and support young people to start businesses and get rich legitimately in their homeland.

Hero Phan Dinh Giot (1922-1954) was born into a poor family in Vinh Phu village, Cam Quan commune, Cam Xuyen district. His father died of famine. At the age of 13, Phan Dinh Giot had to work as a servant, living in hardship and suffering. After the August Revolution, he joined the self-defense force. In 1950, Phan Dinh Giot volunteered to join the main force; participating in many major campaigns such as: Trung Du, Hoa Binh, Tay Bac, Dien Bien Phu. The outstanding son of Cam Quan commune's hometown went down in history with his indomitable act of "using his body to fill the loopholes", contributing to the Dien Bien Phu victory that was famous in five continents and shook the world.

To honor the contributions of the People's Armed Forces Hero Phan Dinh Giot, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has called for and mobilized social resources; through the connection of the Provincial People's Committee and the Standing Committee of the Ha Tinh Provincial Youth Union to build a memorial project. The project was built right on the foundation of the house where Hero Phan Dinh Giot was born and raised; including the following items: a 3-room wooden church, a reception and exhibition house, a garden, a renovated village well landscape, a parking lot and other ancillary works.

The project has a total estimated investment of about 20 billion VND, mobilized from socialized sources of: staff of the Natural Resources and Environment sector, Vietnam Cement Corporation (Hanoi), Xuan Truong Construction Private Enterprise (Ninh Binh), Hai Duong Petroleum Maritime Joint Stock Company (Ba Ria - Vung Tau) and a number of other benefactors.

The project has been started with the meaning of propagating and educating the young generation and the people about the revolutionary tradition of the homeland and the country; practically aiming at the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory and commemorating the 70th anniversary of the sacrifice of the People's Armed Forces Hero Phan Dinh Giot. This will be a red address to attract a large number of children and tourists from all over to visit and commemorate.
