There are two players who will be most closely watched in the 2022-23 UEFA Nations League final in Feyenoord (Netherlands): Spain's Jesus Navas and Croatia's Luka Modric.
Modric will turn 38 in September, followed by Navas two months later. Both are not done yet and want to continue playing at the top level.
Jesus Navas sets record as oldest player to play for Spain. |
Jesus Navas said when he arrived at Las Rozas a few days ago: "I hope to play for many more years."
Recently, in the 2-1 semi-final win over Italy, Navas became the oldest player in the history of the Spanish national team. The Sevilla player is the only world champion from South Africa 2010 still called up by Luis de la Fuente.
Navas' experience is essential in De la Fuente's revolution, with ambitions of winning the title after 11 years of waiting, since Euro 2012. The former Man City player is also present in that championship squad.
De la Fuente won the European Under-19 and Under-21 Championships. Now, in his fledgling coaching career at the highest level, he is looking forward to a title to further his work of rebuilding Spain.
Meanwhile, Modric continued his career with no signs of slowing down, with a brilliant semi-final run that went into extra time against the Netherlands.
Modric has refused to go to Saudi Arabia, at least for now, to play at the highest level and seek his first title with Croatia.
Modric is hungry for titles with Croatia. |
Modric has won everything with Real Madrid in his proud career. However, he has yet to win a title with the national team after finishing second and third in the last two World Cups.
Croatia have had an incredible run of form. Their 4-2 win over the Netherlands was one such display.
At De Kuip Stadium, Modric wants to write history for Croatian football before going on summer vacation.
