The event takes place from August 28, 2024 to October 2024, promising to bring surprising and interesting experiences about the ancient Champa culture.
Exhibition 'Champa Treasures - Marks of Time' opens on August 28
This exhibition takes visitors on a journey to discover more than 60 precious artifacts from the Champa kingdom - a culture that flourished in the central region of Vietnam from the 9th to the 10th century.
Notably, the artifacts all date from the 17th and 18th centuries, a period when Champa cultural history was little studied and known. This is the first time these treasures have been widely introduced to the public.
The exhibition is divided into two fascinating sections. The first section displays statues of gods and religious mascots made from gold and silver and studded with precious stones, such as statues of Shiva, Ganesha, Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara, and many other mascots. These works reflect the cultural assimilation of Hinduism and Buddhism in the spiritual life of the ancient Champa people.
The second part focuses on introducing artifacts symbolizing royal and religious authority, from earrings, rings, necklaces, to unique decorative items such as crowns, hairpins, and jewelry boxes.
The decorative details on the artifacts all bear the mark of Champa art, with mythological symbols such as Brahma, Visnu, Shiva, the divine bull Nandin, and the divine snake Naga.
The statue of Lord Ganesha is one of the rare antiques.
With its sophistication and timeless historical and cultural value, the exhibition "Champa Treasures - Marks of Time" is not only an opportunity for the public to enjoy unique works of art, but also an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of a little-known period of Champa culture.
This event also affirms the important role of the National History Museum in preserving and promoting the value of national cultural heritage, while connecting and supporting museums and private collections in introducing heritage to the community.
The exhibition opens to visitors from August 28, 2024 and will last until the end of October 2024.
