From the remaining traces of the old foundation, Binh Lang temple worshiping Uy Minh Vuong Ly Nhat Quang in Bac Hong ward (Hong Linh town) has been restored and embellished by the people, becoming a spiritual address in the heart of the northern urban area of Ha Tinh.
Uy Minh Vuong Ly Nhat Quang (995 -1057), was the 8th son of King Ly Thai To. He was a historical figure who made many contributions to the Hoan Chau region in particular (Nghe An, Ha Tinh today) and the country in general. He was quick-witted, well-versed in both literature and martial arts, intelligent and virtuous. In 1039, he was sent by Ly Thai Tong to Nghe An to take care of tax collection. In 1041, he was appointed as Tri Chau Nghe An - Title Uy Minh Hau, then promoted to the title of king. In recognition of the great merits and virtues of Uy Minh Vuong Ly Nhat Quang, since the 18th century, the people in the area built Binh Lang Temple to worship him, in residential group 5, Bac Hong ward, Hong Linh town today. Every year, on the 16th day of the 12th lunar month, local people hold a memorial service for Uy Minh Vuong Ly Nhat Quang at Binh Lang Temple. |
According to the elders, Binh Lang Temple has existed here majestically since the 18th century. Over the course of history, the temple has been completely ruined, with only traces of the old foundation remaining.
In the early years of the 21st century, the local people established a small temple to worship according to the old custom. In 2009, the people donated and contributed to the restoration and reconstruction of Binh Lang Temple.
Mr. Dinh Xuan Tu - Keeper of Binh Lang Temple said: "Because the temple is located on the bank of Binh Lang stream, it is named "Binh Lang Temple". The temple was built with two main rooms, the middle hall and the upper hall, in ancient architecture, made of ironwood."
The central palace is where worship ceremonies are held on the death anniversary of Uy Minh Vuong Ly Nhat Quang and on holidays and Tet.
The upper temple is where the statue of Uy Minh Vuong Ly Nhat Quang is placed.
At Binh Lang temple, there is still a pair of ancient stone unicorns.
Binh Lang Temple was ranked as a provincial historical and cultural relic by the Provincial People's Committee on November 1, 2023.
