The exhibition "Huynh Phuong Dong's Journey" is organized by the family of the late painter Huynh Phuong Dong in collaboration with the Ho Chi Minh City Museum and SANN - The House of Art. This is part of a series of exhibitions to honor the artistic career of the soldier - painter Huynh Phuong Dong in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
According to Ms. Doan Thi Trang, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Museum, this exhibition introduces typical works by artist Huynh Phuong Dong, deeply depicting the journey through the two resistance wars to the period of peace and national reconstruction. "The works reflect touching stories, full of humanity, marking the historical milestones of the nation," Ms. Trang emphasized.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Ms. Le Thi Thu, wife of the late painter Huynh Phuong Dong, expressed her emotion when witnessing the series of exhibitions held to celebrate the 100th anniversary of his birth. "This is a meaningful gift that the family wishes to send to the public, helping people understand more about his creative journey and the artistic value of the works he left behind," she shared. At the same time, she also expressed her hope that in the future there will be a large enough space to preserve and display all of the late painter's works to serve the art-loving public.

The exhibition "Huynh Phuong Dong's Journey" is one of the cultural and artistic activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025), the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Indochina College of Fine Arts (1925-2025) and the 100th anniversary of the birth of painter Huynh Phuong Dong (1925-2025).

This exhibition displays 700 representative works selected from more than 3,000 of his works, including paintings in various materials and a series of sketches. The content of the works clearly shows the artist's creative journey - from sketches of landscapes, portraits of cadres, soldiers, and guerrillas during wartime, to images recording major battles such as the Binh Gia Campaign, La Nga... In addition, the exhibition also introduces works about the period of peace, the country's construction, the artist's creative trips across the country and international trips.

With a national spirit and profound humanity, the exhibition "Huynh Phuong Dong's Journey" not only helps the public understand more about the life and career of the late artist but also brings touching historical stories, realistically depicting famous generals, artists, intellectuals as well as ordinary people who made history. The characters in his paintings are diverse in perspective, showing a journey from wartime to peacetime, recording meaningful everyday moments.

Painter Huynh Phuong Dong (1925-2015), birth name Huynh Cong Nhan, was born in Gia Dinh (now Ho Chi Minh City), originally from Soc Trang. He was a painter - soldier who participated in two resistance wars against France and America. With more than 70 years of dedicated creation, he left behind many works of great artistic and historical value, becoming precious heritages of Vietnamese fine arts.
