(CLO) On the evening of March 6, the People's Committee of Bac Lieu province coordinated with the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment to organize the Opening Ceremony of the Vietnam - Bac Lieu Salt Festival 2025 "100-year journey of salt industry - Human life".
Accordingly, the 2025 Vietnam - Bac Lieu Salt Festival "100-year journey of salt making - Human life" will take place from March 6 to March 8 with the theme "Enhancing the value of Vietnamese salt".

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Pham Van Thieu, Chairman of Bac Lieu Provincial People's Committee, said that Bac Lieu salt has been closely associated with the lives of the people. Bac Lieu salt is not only an essential spice in daily meals, but also a product with deep cultural, historical and economic values of the locality.
Salt making is also a cultural feature, reflecting the identity of Bac Lieu people. In particular, in 2020, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism recognized the salt making profession in Bac Lieu as a "National Intangible Cultural Heritage". This is considered a driving force, a reminder for the authorities and people of Bac Lieu to have the responsibility to preserve, conserve and develop in order to contribute to creating income and jobs, while creating motivation and resources to preserve and promote the value of this intangible cultural heritage.
However, the salt making industry has been facing many challenges such as climate change, unstable prices, etc. Therefore, it requires attention and investment from all levels and sectors to support the salt industry towards diversifying products, not only for eating salt but also for beauty, medicinal salt, salt for industrial production, etc.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Festival, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha highly appreciated the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (now the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment) and the People's Committee of Bac Lieu province for their initiative to organize the Vietnam Salt Festival - Bac Lieu 2025.

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha emphasized that Vietnam has natural advantages to develop the salt production and processing industry, with more than 3,200 km of coastline and favorable climate conditions. Currently, the country has 21 provinces and cities producing salt, with an area of about 11,400 hectares, and an average output of 1 million tons/year.
Some localities have built brands and geographical indications for salt products, exporting them to many markets. However, the development of the Vietnamese salt industry in recent times has faced many challenges, leading to the Vietnamese salt brand not being truly strong in the domestic and international markets.
In order for the salt industry to develop in the coming time, the Deputy Prime Minister requested the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment to coordinate with the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the People's Committees of coastal provinces and cities to focus on reviewing immediately to develop salt areas in places with favorable conditions; forming industrial salt production areas, linking production with processing, recovering post-salt products, and applying circular economy.
