Recently, the famous American travel magazine Travel & Leisure announced the list of 25 most beautiful islands and archipelagos in the world in 2024. The survey was conducted by more than 186,000 readers from all over the world of Travel + Leisure. The islands were evaluated based on 5 criteria: Natural attractions/beaches, activities, restaurants/cuisine, people/friendliness, and the value that the destination brings to visitors.
Accordingly, the island nation of Maldives located in the Indian Ocean topped the rankings with a total score of 95.63. Phu Quoc Island (the only representative of Vietnam) ranked 2nd with a total score of 94.41. Meanwhile, Bali (Indonesia) was pushed down to 3rd place.
Travel + Leisure magazine introduced Phu Quoc as an emerging tourist destination and this is also the island's greatest strength. This is a rare place that retains its wildness and peace. However, that does not mean that Phu Quoc lacks the most luxurious hotels with high-class amenities and private swimming pools.
Previously, ABC News (Australia) voted Phu Quoc beach as the top 5 beautiful and clean beaches, but little known in the world.
This news agency commented that Bai Dai of Phu Quoc Island is a “Hidden Beaches” - a hidden beach. Bai Dai is considered the most “wonderful” from October to March every year. Following Bai Dai of Phu Quoc in the above list are Wildcat Beach in California, USA, Pink Beach in Barbuda, an island with many beautiful sandy beaches in the Atlantic Ocean, Cayo Costa State Park in South Florida and Majahuitas Cove in Mexico.
In 2017, the British newspaper Telegraph introduced Phu Quoc as a hidden gem of Asia. Among dozens of pristine islands here, Hon Xuong and Hon Thom were mentioned as the most beautiful places with many sports activities such as diving and yachting.
In 2019, Phu Quoc continued to be voted by the American Forbes magazine as one of the 6 most beautiful beaches on the planet. The American magazine introduced that tourists can come to Phu Quoc to soak up the sun or dive, fish, kayak and squid fish. Early morning is the right time to come to Duong Dong market, which is considered the "heart" of the Pearl Island.

The system of classy hotels with diverse styles, stretching along poetic beaches has also contributed to "touching the hearts" of tourists when coming to Pearl Island. International visitors increased by over 177% compared to the same period.
Mr. Bui Quoc Thai - Director of Kien Giang Department of Tourism said: In August, Kien Giang is estimated to welcome 987,361 visitors (up 18.7% over the same period), of which international visitors are estimated to welcome 92,180 (up 175% over the same period); total revenue is VND 2,448 billion (up 82% over the same period). In the first 8 months, Kien Giang is estimated to welcome 7,659,745 visitors (reaching 83.3% of the yearly plan), of which international visitors are estimated to welcome 665,067 (reaching 97.8% of the yearly plan); total revenue is VND 18,042 billion (reaching 90.2% of the yearly plan).
Of which, Phu Quoc city is estimated to welcome 561,548 visitors (up 4.3% over the same period), of which international visitors are estimated to welcome 91,237 (up 177.6% over the same period); total revenue reaches 2,019 billion VND (up 84.2% over the same period). Accumulated in 8 months, it is estimated to welcome 4,527,713 visitors (reaching 67.6% of the yearly plan), international visitors are estimated to welcome 653,525 visitors (reaching 98.1% of the yearly plan), total revenue reaches 14,863 billion VND (reaching 87.4% of the yearly plan). Visitors to Phu Quoc mainly come by air. Recent figures show that out of every 100 flights to Phu Quoc, about 50% are international visitors.
Speaking to reporters, Mr. Nguyen Vu Khac Huy - Permanent Vice President of Kien Giang Tourism Association, said: during the National Day holiday on September 2 this year, it is forecasted that international visitors to Phu Quoc will double compared to the same period last year. Of which, tourists mainly come from Taiwan (China), Korea, Russia, etc.
From October 28, 2024, Air Astana has launched a new route, departing from Almaty (Kazakhstan) to Phu Quoc with a frequency of twice a week, then increasing to 4 times a week from December .
According to Mr. Huy, domestic tourists will increase but not much because the new school year is coming, families are also limiting their travel. The factor of high airfares also affects domestic tourists to Phu Quoc. Round-trip airfares from Hanoi to Phu Quoc and vice versa from August 31 to September 3 range from 6.3-8.2 million VND/passenger; from Ho Chi Minh City, the fare ranges from 2.9-3.5 million VND/passenger; from Hai Phong, the fare is more than 5 million VND/passenger.
Currently, tourism businesses in Phu Quoc are implementing many attractive stimulus programs to attract tourists. Many hotels and resorts on the island apply discount programs and special service packages, support international visitors to quickly complete procedures, increase promotions, remove surcharges... On the occasion of the upcoming National Day, many new attractive tourism services are being deployed in Phu Quoc, including exploring the pearl island by double-decker bus, experiencing basket boats on the sea, water sports...
