On the evening of December 13 (Vietnam time), the draw ceremony for the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers in Europe was held.
The 54 teams are divided into 12 groups (six groups of four and six groups of five) to compete for the 16 teams that will represent Europe in the first-ever expanded 48-team World Cup, which is being co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The 12 winners of each group when the qualifying round ends in November 2025 will directly qualify for the 2026 World Cup, while the remaining four spots will be determined through a play-off round in March 2026.
According to the draw results, England fell into Group K (a group of 5 teams), along with Serbia, Albania, Latvia and Andorra.
This is considered an easy group for the Three Lions to compete for a ticket to the Americas to attend the biggest football festival on the planet.
While England has identified its opponent, other "big guys" such as Germany, Italy, France, Spain, the Netherlands or Portugal still do not know their specific opponent.
These teams will only know which group they fall into after the quarter-finals of the 2024-25 Nations League conclude.
Specifically, the winner of the Germany-Italy match will fall into group A (Slovakia, Northern Ireland, Luxembourg), while the loser will have to compete in group I (Norway, Israel, Estonia and Moldova).
Portugal will fall into Group C if they lose to Denmark, otherwise they will be in Group F (both groups have only 4 teams).
France will be in Group D if they win against Croatia, otherwise they will be in Group L.
Meanwhile, the winner of the Spain-Netherlands match will be in Group E and the loser will be in Group G.
