SATRIA-1 - Indonesia's most powerful telecommunications satellite in Asia with a capacity of 150 Gbps - is expected to be launched into orbit on June 19 by SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral, Florida, USA, and become operational in early 2024.
Speaking at a press conference on June 14, Mr. Adi Rahman Adiwoso, CEO of satellite service provider PT Satelit Nusantara Tiga (SNT), said SATRIA-1 will move to the correct orbit in November and a comprehensive inspection will be conducted at the end of December before the satellite is ready for operation in January 2024.
With 11 ground stations, SATRIA-1 mainly provides Internet access to serve public services, focusing on the fields of education, health care, local governments, military and police in remote areas.
SATRIA-1’s initial service life is set at 15 years, but the satellite has the option to extend its service life by another five years. The total cost of the SATRIA-1 project is $540 million, $90 million more than originally estimated, and is being funded through a public-private partnership.
