Co To island district, Quang Ninh province, has gone through 30 years of difficult construction and development since its establishment.
Co To is an outpost island district located in the Northeast of Quang Ninh province, established under Decree No. 28/CP dated March 23, 1994 of the Government. The district has a land area of over 53.68 km2 with 74 islands and a sea area and fishing grounds of over 300 km2.
Throughout the country's history, with its particularly important geostrategic position, Co To has become a "fence", playing an important strategic role in the defense posture, an outpost, a stronghold, a multi-layered steel shield, a protective layer for the northern gateway of the Fatherland.
On May 9, 1961, the army and people of Co To Island were honored to welcome President Ho Chi Minh to visit. This is also the only locality in the country that Uncle Ho agreed to erect a statue of him during his lifetime .
