In 2023, Hung Khanh commune was recognized by the Provincial People's Committee as meeting advanced NTM standards. From that achievement, the Party Committee, government and people of Hung Khanh set a new, higher goal, determined to successfully build a model NTM commune that is outstanding in production. The Party Committee of the commune issued a thematic resolution identifying the construction of a model NTM as one of the key tasks to implement the Resolution of the 10th Central Committee on "agriculture, farmers and rural areas".
To realize the goal, in addition to maintaining and improving the advanced NTM criteria, Hung Khanh focuses on the production sector to increase income and quality of life for the people. To build a commune that is outstanding in production, especially in the field of agricultural production, the locality has focused on directing the implementation of Resolution No. 69 of the Provincial People's Council on implementing policies to support the development of agricultural and forestry production in the period of 2021 - 2025; planning concentrated specialized agricultural production areas in accordance with production conditions and the potential and strengths of the locality.
Mr. Tran Van Tam - Chairman of the Commune People's Committee said: "To achieve a model NTM commune with outstanding production, the commune has mobilized people to convert ineffective crop structure to crops with high economic efficiency; at the same time, develop and expand the scale of valuable and effective crops and livestock suitable to production conditions to increase value, creating commodity production areas with large product volumes".
Up to now, Hung Khanh has formed commodity production areas and key products with high value, economic efficiency and competitiveness in the market such as: tea growing and processing area of over 117 hectares, of which tea business area is 87.4 hectares, output 770 tons; Bat Do bamboo shoot growing and processing area of over 400 hectares, of which bamboo business area is 200 hectares, commercial bamboo shoot output 1,000 tons/year, cinnamon 753 hectares, dry cinnamon bark output 190 tons... In addition, Hung Khanh commune also maintains effective operations and has stable value chain linkage contracts with 8 cooperatives (HTX).
Cooperatives have contracts with members on the use of products and services, attracting 1,875 members to participate; the rate of households participating in cooperative activities is 62.4%. In livestock development, the commune has mobilized people to switch from small-scale livestock farming to concentrated commercial livestock farming to ensure disease safety. Up to now, the whole commune has 11 commercial livestock farms, of which 6 raise buffaloes and cows with a scale of 10 heads/farm or more. Hung Khanh always creates conditions for households to invest in developing industrial, handicraft and processing industry establishments associated with local raw material areas.
Up to now, the commune has 6 enterprises, 7 facilities for processing planted forest wood, 8 cooperatives. In the commune, there are 2 economic models applying high technology: the tea processing model of Khe Nam Tea Cooperative and the Bat Do bamboo shoot processing model of Yamazaki Vietnam Co., Ltd. The economic models have a scale suitable to the economic development characteristics of the locality, associated with key crops and investment in production to create products with quality, outstanding features, high added value, environmentally friendly, and associated with ensuring food safety.
Mr. Vu Van Hong - Director of Khe Nam Tea Cooperative said: "We have invested in a modern machinery system including 4 tea roasting machines and 6 tea rolling machines with VPS technology. At peak time, the Cooperative can process 1 ton of fresh tea per day, equivalent to about 200 kg of dry tea. Not only achieving high output, replacing manual labor with modern machinery, but the Cooperative's tea products are also recognized as 4-star OCOP products in 2023".
Currently, most of the large-scale economic models in the commune are suitable for the local economic development characteristics associated with key crops and production investment to create products with outstanding quality, features, high added value, and environmental friendliness. The program to build a model new-style rural commune with outstanding production has contributed to bringing the average income per capita in 2024 of Hung Khanh to nearly 62 million VND, reducing the multidimensional poverty rate to 1.3%.
With the efforts, determination and joint efforts of all cadres, party members and people, in early March, Hung Khanh commune became the first commune in Yen Bai province to be recognized as a model NTM commune with outstanding production.
