Yemen's Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree said they had struck 'an important target' in the Israeli Red Sea port city of Eilat.
According to Reuters citing a speech by Mr. Yahya Saree on November 16, the Houthi air force carried out a military operation targeting an important Israeli target in the Umm al-Rashrash area of Eilat city.
Houthi spokesman Yahya Saree speaks in Yemen on November 8, 2024.
Mr. Saree declared that the Houthi campaign had achieved its objectives, adding that several unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) had participated in the attack.
Houthi spokesman Saree also praised the resilience of the Palestinian people as well as the Lebanese people in the face of fierce attacks from Israel, and affirmed that they will continue to impose a maritime blockade and military operations against Israel.
“These operations will not stop until the conflict ends, the siege on Gaza is lifted and the fighting in Lebanon ends,” Saree added in his speech.
The group has carried out dozens of attacks on international shipping routes in the Red Sea region since November 2023.
The Houthi attacks have disrupted global trade by forcing shipowners to reroute, abandoning the vital Suez Canal shortcut, and have drawn retaliatory air strikes by the US and UK since February 2024.
According to ABC News citing data from the International Maritime Organization, the US and UK also pointed out that there were at least 134 attacks carried out from Houthi-controlled areas on commercial vessels in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden from November 15, 2023 to July 31, 2024.
Most recently, on November 13, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) released footage of the US attacking many Houthi weapons storage facilities in Yemen in response to Houthi airstrikes on international commercial ships.
