The Ministry of Transport has just approved a plan to maintain maritime works in 2024 with a total budget of more than VND 1,800 billion to accommodate large-sized ships.
Accordingly, there are 2 sections of the channel that will be dredged and maintained and completed in 2024, including the Hai Phong maritime channel in 2022 - 2025 (Ha Nam and Bach Dang Canal sections) and Rach Gia channel.
In the period of 2024 - 2025, 12 waterways will be dredged and maintained, including Hai Phong waterway (Lach Huyen section), Hai Phong waterway (Cam River section, Cai Trap Canal), Hon Gai - Cai Lan, Pha Rung, Cua Hoi - Ben Thuy (Cua Hoi section), Cua Viet, Cua Gianh, Soai Rap, Saigon - Vung Tau, maritime waterways for large tonnage ships entering Hau River, Phan Thiet, Ba Ngoi.
In addition, a number of maritime routes will continue to be implemented in 2023 - 2024, including Hai Phong route in 2023 (Lach Huyen section) with a budget of about 342.9 billion VND in 2024; Diem Dien (budget in 2024 of about 45.9 billion VND); Hai Thinh (budget in 2024 of about 15.3 billion VND); Cua Lo (budget in 2024 of about 48.2 billion VND); Hon La (budget in 2024 of about 17.5 billion VND); Thuan An (budget in 2024 of about 12.6 billion VND); Da Nang (budget in 2024 of 36 billion VND).
At the same time, some waterways continue to be dredged and maintained, including Sa Ky (2024 budget of about 13.9 billion VND); Soai Rap (2024 budget of about 425 billion VND); Saigon - Vung Tau (2024 budget of about 227.1 billion VND) and the waterway for large-tonnage ships on Hau River (2024 budget of about 528.7 billion VND); The project to dredge and maintain the Saigon - Vung Tau waterway in the 2022 - 2024 period will also continue with an investment budget of more than 20.5 billion VND in 2024.
The maintenance and dredging of shipping channels is to ensure the reception of large tonnage ships docking at ports to transport goods.
To ensure the plan is implemented effectively, the Vietnam Maritime Administration is assigned to organize the implementation of the plan's contents to ensure quality, economic and technical efficiency, progress and compliance with legal regulations; exercise the authority of the investment decision maker with projects under the approved plan.
The Ministry of Transport requests the Vietnam Maritime Administration to establish and report on the detailed progress of the implementation of the 2024 maritime works maintenance plan as a basis for inspection and supervision during the implementation process; summarize and periodically and suddenly report on the results of the plan implementation according to regulations.
The Vietnam Maritime Administration must strengthen State management, inspection, supervision, and guidance for relevant agencies and units to implement the plan, especially the inspection and supervision of dumping of dredged materials and depth survey during the implementation of projects in accordance with the provisions of law.
In addition, the Ministry of Transport assigned the Department of Transport Infrastructure to preside over the synthesis and advise the ministry's leaders in the process of organizing, implementing, inspecting, adjusting, and supplementing the plan in a timely, effective and legal manner .
