Half a year after the Hanoi Police Football Club began the procedure to apply for Vietnamese citizenship for Jason Pendant Quang Vinh, the defender born in 1997 also realized his wish to become a citizen of the S-shaped country. He decided to take his mother's surname in the sacred and noble Vietnamese name: Cao Pendant Quang Vinh.

On the very first evening of becoming a Vietnamese citizen, Cao Pendant Quang Vinh's house welcomed the presence of a close and special guest. That was Nguyen Filip. The overseas Vietnamese goalkeeper brought a cake to share with his teammate at the Hanoi Police Club. More than a year ago, Nguyen Filip himself experienced boundless happiness when he officially received Vietnamese citizenship after a decade of patient waiting.

It should be remembered that during that time, football fans have searched for many talented overseas Vietnamese players around the world. Jason Quang Vinh and Nguyen Filip are the two overseas Vietnamese players who are most highly regarded and have the greatest potential to contribute to the Vietnam National Team. And that prospect became a reality after both of these talented players agreed to join the Hanoi Police Club in particular and the V.League in general.

With their efforts, the Police team has supported and fulfilled the aspiration of Nguyen Filip to become a Vietnamese citizen and contribute to the "Golden Star Warriors" or, further, Cao Pendant Quang Vinh in the near future.

Just like the time Nguyen Filip was naturalized and played for the Vietnam national team, football fans are eagerly waiting for the moment Quang Vinh is called up by coach Kim Sang-sik in June. Especially in the context of the Vietnam national team lacking a top-class left-back, after Doan Van Hau's long-term injury, Quang Vinh's presence also has great professional significance.

In fact, as soon as he arrived at the Hanoi Police Club in August 2024, Quang Vinh filled Van Hau's left-back position. The player born in 1997 played 15 out of 16 matches in the V.League; appeared in 5 out of 6 matches in the Southeast Asian Club Championship of the Hanoi Police Club. In 4/5 of the above matches, Quang Vinh started and played the entire match. The same thing happened in the National Cup when coach Mano Polking trusted the left-back position to the mature face from French football.

"Jason Quang Vinh is a great player, he is very versatile, can play in many positions and has played well since the beginning of the season. He is an intelligent player and plays great in his role. If he is naturalized, I think he will help the Vietnam national team a lot," coach Mano Polking praised his student.

"Dream team" for Vietnam National Team

Not only Mr. Mano Polking, Coach Kim Sang Sik has long opened the door, waiting for Quang Vinh to join the national team. In the context of Van Hau not having a return date, Viet Hung not being able to show himself and Van Vi still only being average, Jason Quang Vinh's level of playing in the US and France is what the Vietnamese national team needs.

"If overseas Vietnamese player Jason Quang Vinh has Vietnamese nationality, I would love to call him up to the Vietnam national team. Of course, to become a national player, Quang Vinh must truly show love, dedication, and willingness to sacrifice for the Vietnam national team. If he can do it, I am willing to give him a chance," coach Kim Sang-sik emphasized.

Mr. Tran Anh Tu, Vice President of the Vietnam Football Federation, also excitedly said: "Jason Quang Vinh Pendant of the Hanoi Police Club is a potential player. He is young and plays in the left-back position that the team needs to strengthen. If Quang Vinh is available, the left-back position of the Vietnam National Team will have an additional talented player. But we must also consider whether this player is suitable for the coach's tactics."

Jason Quang Vinh is indeed a very important piece that the Vietnam National Team needs, especially when this June, the team will have to face an extremely formidable Malaysia away. That is also the match that will decide the ticket to the 2027 Asian Cup Finals of the "Golden Star Warriors". Besides, he is also a formidable factor in the "dream team" of the Vietnam National Team that fans have been waiting for so long.

How experienced is Quang Vinh?

Jason Pendant Quang Vinh (Vietnamese name Cao Pendant Quang Vinh) started his football career at local club Sarcelles AAS before joining Sochaux, a team that plays most of its time in Ligue 2. His father is French and his mother is Vietnamese. After impressive performances for the Sochaux first team in the 2016/17 season, he was signed by the club's management to a professional contract. On January 23, 2018, Jason Pendant Quang Vinh scored his first goal since turning professional, after scoring for Sochaux against Colomiers in the Coupe de France.

After his time with Sochaux, on March 10, 2020, Jason Pendant Quang Vinh completed his transfer to the New York Red Bulls Club in the MLS. On July 11, 2020, he made his debut for the New York Red Bulls in a 1-0 win over Atlanta United.

After 2 years of fighting in MLS, on July 12, 2022, Jason Pendant Quang Vinh decided to return home to play for Quevilly Rouen, a club playing in Ligue 2. Here, he is considered an irreplaceable pillar of the team in Western France. The defender born in 1997 is also a member of the executive board of Quevilly Rouen.

In August 2024, Quang Vinh agreed to sign a 2-year contract with Hanoi Police Football Club. He is the team's key player. Half a year after returning to play in the V.League, Quang Vinh received Vietnamese citizenship.
