On the afternoon of July 17, the Vietnam Journalists Association and the "Lighting the Flame of Gratitude" working group held an incense offering ceremony to commemorate heroic martyrs at the Vietnam - Laos international cemetery; and presented gifts to families of policy beneficiaries and armed forces in Anh Son district, Nghe An province.
With an area of nearly 7 hectares, the Vietnam - Laos international martyrs cemetery is the resting place of 10,804 Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who fought and died in Laos.
Since its construction, the cemetery has received and cared for nearly 11,000 remains of martyrs who died on the battlefield in Laos, including nearly 7,000 graves with unknown names and hometowns.
In a solemn, respectful and emotional atmosphere, delegates of the Vietnam Journalists Association and the working delegation offered incense and offered prayers to commemorate and express their infinite gratitude to generations of fathers and brothers who sacrificed for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland and for the noble international revolutionary cause.
On this occasion, the Vietnam Journalists Association coordinated with units to present 2,000 Vietnam - Laos flags to the Vietnam - Laos International Cemetery Management Board; presented three gratitude houses and great solidarity houses to families of people with revolutionary contributions and families in difficult circumstances.
Presented 10 tablets, 20 scholarships, each worth 1 million VND; presented 20 bicycles and 20 gifts to poor students who have overcome difficulties in the locality.

In addition, the program "Lighting the Flame of Gratitude" in 2024 also donated 100 million VND to Phuc Son Border Guard Station, under the Nghe An Provincial Border Guard Command, to contribute to the implementation of the "Plan to build an economic development model to eliminate hunger and reduce poverty for people in the border area".
Speaking at the program, Mr. Le Quoc Minh - editor-in-chief of Nhan Dan newspaper, deputy head of the Central Propaganda Department, president of the Vietnam Journalists Association - emphasized: "These are meaningful gifts, gratitude and encouragement that the Vietnam Journalists Association and sponsors send to families of people with revolutionary contributions, families in difficult circumstances, poor but studious students, cadres and soldiers who are day and night firmly protecting the fence of the Fatherland".
"Lighting the Flame of Gratitude" is an annual activity that the Vietnam Journalists Association maintains, demonstrating the morality of the next generation towards the previous generation who sacrificed for the cause of fighting for national independence, building and defending the Fatherland, thereby continuing to raise the awareness and responsibility of the younger generation for the work of showing gratitude to those who have contributed to the country.
