Cultural heritage workers must conduct themselves according to a code of professional conduct.

The rules aim to define standards of behavior for professionals, prevent negative behaviors, distortions, deviations and risks of loss and destruction... of cultural heritage values.

The Code of Professional Conduct for Cultural Heritage Workers has just been officially issued by Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Dao Cuong.

The goal of the code is to define standards of behavior, to unify the perception and actions of people working in cultural heritage, to effectively prevent negative behaviors, distortions, deviations and risks of loss and destruction of heritage in the activities of protecting and promoting the value of cultural heritage.

The rules also contribute to affirming the role and responsibility of those working in cultural heritage, building and developing advanced Vietnamese culture and people, imbued with national identity, meeting the requirements of sustainable national development.

Accordingly, the code includes general codes of conduct and 5 specific codes: Code of conduct in professional activities (in the fields of museums, relics, intangible cultural heritage, documentary heritage and information); Code of conduct towards colleagues; Code of conduct towards organizations and individuals participating in research and visiting cultural heritage; Code of conduct in the press, media, and cyberspace; Code of conduct when participating in other social activities.

The general code of conduct includes 9 contents, in which, people working in cultural heritage must put the interests of the Party, the nation, the people and the people above all, preserve the qualities, ethics, prestige and honor of people working in cultural heritage in accordance with social ethical standards, fine customs and Vietnamese cultural traditions.

Each individual and collective must strictly comply with the provisions of the law and international conventions on cultural heritage that Vietnam participates in; promote civic responsibility and the responsibility of those working in cultural heritage, respect the diversity of cultural heritage, and not harm the reputation of the collective, the health, honor, and dignity of others.

The general code of conduct also requires those working in cultural heritage to continuously study and practice to improve their political awareness and professional qualifications and skills; to uphold a sense of responsibility for their work; to consciously fight against wrongdoing and negative behavior; to practice thrift, fight against embezzlement and waste; to uphold professional ethics; to fight against illegal trading of cultural heritage or unethical acts in the field of cultural heritage.

At the same time, the code of conduct promotes the spirit of solidarity, positivity, and proactive coordination with colleagues in performing tasks; does not shirk responsibility, shirk assigned work or tasks; does not take advantage of professional activities for personal gain.../.
