G20 Summit: Vietnam promotes relations with countries and international organizations

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh had 7 bilateral meetings with leaders of countries and international organizations, including Spain, Paraguay, Canada, Singapore, UAE, Vatican, and the World Health Organization (WHO).

According to a special correspondent of the Vietnam News Agency, within the framework of the G20 Summit in Brazil, on November 19 (local time), Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh had 7 bilateral meetings with leaders of countries and international organizations, including Spain, Paraguay, Canada, Singapore, UAE, Vatican, and the World Health Organization (WHO).

At the meetings, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh respectfully conveyed the greetings of General Secretary To Lam, President Luong Cuong, and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man to the leaders.

The Prime Minister also conveyed the invitation of General Secretary To Lam and President Luong Cuong to the leaders to visit Vietnam.

Meeting with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to and wishes to further deepen the strategic partnership with Spain; and thanked the Spanish Government for supporting Vietnam in overcoming the consequences of Typhoon Yagi.

In order to promote bilateral relations, the Prime Minister proposed that the two sides increase the exchange of delegations at all levels, especially at high levels; soon sign a Joint Action Program between the two Governments in the new period; hope that Spain will help promote the remaining EU countries to soon ratify the EVIPA Agreement, urge the EC to soon remove the IUU yellow card for Vietnamese seafood, and promote cooperation with Vietnam in the fields of transport infrastructure, renewable energy, science and technology and agriculture. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh respectfully invited the Spanish Prime Minister to visit Vietnam in 2025.

Expressing complete agreement with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's proposals, the Spanish Prime Minister suggested that the two sides cooperate in the field of infrastructure such as subways, urban railways, urban planning; have practical activities towards the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2027 such as organizing cultural days of the two countries, promoting people-to-people exchanges, culture, sports, tourism, and actively supporting each other at multilateral forums.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez happily accepted the invitation to visit Vietnam and invited Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to visit Spain at a suitable time.

Talking with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh recalled the good impression of the warm feelings that the UAE Royal Family, Government and the President himself had for the Prime Minister and the high-ranking delegation of the Vietnamese Government during their visit to the UAE last October.

At the meeting, the two sides discussed many measures to strengthen bilateral cooperation to implement the results achieved during the Prime Minister's visit and to prepare for the upcoming visit to Vietnam by the UAE President; affirming that Vietnam is ready to become a strategic supplier of Halal products, contributing to ensuring food security for the UAE.

The UAE Prime Minister said that the UAE will actively support and share experiences with Vietnam in building an international financial center; and strengthen the connection of innovation centers of the two countries. The two sides agreed to promote cooperation in maritime connectivity, tourism, aviation, labor and many other potential areas.

During the meeting with Paraguayan President Santiago Pena, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh suggested that the two sides strengthen political and diplomatic exchanges, expand economic-trade cooperation, investment and people-to-people exchanges; promote negotiations on cooperation agreements/treaties between the two countries such as the Protection Agreement, promote investment; and emphasize the request that Paraguay continue to support the completion of the internal assessment process of the Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR) bloc to soon sign the Vietnam - MERCOSUR Free Trade Agreement.

Agreeing with the proposals of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, the President of Paraguay affirmed that he always attaches importance to the relationship with Vietnam and is ready to act as a bridge to promote the relationship between Vietnam and MERCOSUR - the region with the world's leading food trade.

In an exchange with Singaporean Prime Minister Laurence Wong, the two Prime Ministers discussed directions to strengthen relations in the coming time, such as considering upgrading the framework of relations, promoting delegation exchanges, high-level and all-level contacts as well as bilateral cooperation mechanisms; building new-generation Vietnam-Singapore industrial parks (VSIPs) in a green and digital direction; enhancing infrastructure, logistics and digital connectivity between the two economies; cooperating in developing clean energy and renewable energy systems, promoting the formation of power grids in ASEAN; sharing experiences in building international financial centers. The two Prime Ministers also discussed a number of regional and international issues of mutual concern.

Meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh thanked the Canadian Government for supporting Vietnam in overcoming the consequences of Typhoon Yagi and invited the Canadian Prime Minister to visit Vietnam soon.

In order to promote the Vietnam-Canada Comprehensive Partnership to deepen and reach new heights, the two sides agreed to continue to strengthen bilateral relations, especially the exchange of delegations at all levels, develop economic, trade, investment, ODA cooperation, and training of peacekeeping forces; and more effectively utilize the strengths of the CPTPP, of which both countries are members.

At the meeting with Vatican Prime Minister, Cardinal Peitro Parolin, both sides expressed their joy at the positive developments in Vietnam-Holy See relations in recent times, demonstrated through visits and contacts between high-ranking leaders of both sides.

The Prime Minister expressed his appreciation and respect for the good feelings that Pope Francis and the Prime Minister, Cardinal Pietro Parolin have for Vietnam and respectfully invited the Vatican Prime Minister to visit Vietnam soon. The Vatican Prime Minister happily accepted the invitation and said that Pope Francis hopes to visit Vietnam soon, contributing to promoting the connection between the Holy See and the Catholic Church in Vietnam, further strengthening the Vietnam - Vatican relationship.

In a conversation with WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the Prime Minister thanked and appreciated the WHO's effective vaccine support through the COVAX mechanism, helping Vietnam respond to and overcome the pandemic, restore socio-economic development, and affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to developing cooperation with WHO to ensure public health.

The WHO Director-General highly appreciated Vietnam's policies and efforts in responding to the epidemic, and hoped that Vietnam would actively support the international community to soon adopt a global agreement on preventing and responding to future epidemics. The WHO Director-General also proposed strengthening cooperation with Vietnam to develop an ecosystem for biotechnology and medicine./.
