Quang Nam hosts "UN Tourism's International Conference on Rural Tourism"

(NLDO) – From December 9 to 11, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism coordinated with the United Nations Tourism Organization and the People's Committee of Quang Nam province to organize the International Conference on Rural Tourism.

On the morning of November 22, at Hoiana Resort, the People's Committee of Quang Nam province held a press conference to announce hosting the "UN Tourism International Conference on Rural Tourism" in 2024 in Quang Nam - Vietnam.

This event is organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) in collaboration with the United Nations Tourism Organization (UN Tourism) and the People's Committee of Quang Nam Province. The event takes place from December 9 to 11, including the first International Conference on Rural Tourism and the second annual meeting of the UN Tourism Best Village Network.

Leaders of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Department of Tourism and the People's Committee of Quang Nam province chaired the press conference.

The first International Conference on Rural Tourism, held on December 10, is UN Tourism’s first global event on rural tourism, expected to attract 300 delegates from national and local management agencies of UN Tourism member countries and Vietnam, international organizations, the tourism community and the private sector. The conference will also be broadcast live on UN Tourism’s official YouTube channel.

With the aim of identifying challenges, sharing good practices and promoting rural tourism cooperation, the conference will discuss and orient policies for sustainable rural tourism development, ensuring equitable distribution of tourism benefits, job creation, protection of natural and cultural resources, social inclusion, empowerment of local communities and vulnerable groups, including women, youth and indigenous people.

Speaking at the press conference, Mr. Ho An Phong, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said that the UN Tourism International Conference on Rural Tourism held in Quang Nam is a meaningful event, helping to promote the image of Vietnam, its people, and Vietnamese villages to domestic and international tourists, helping to enhance the position of Vietnam tourism, and promote rural tourism...

Deputy Minister Ho An Phong said that Quang Nam was chosen as the venue because this locality possesses extremely unique natural and cultural values. Quang Nam has a lot of experience in organizing international conferences and seminars, and has great potential to attract investors to develop sustainable tourism...

Referring to the event of Tra Que Vegetable Village - Hoi An recently being honored as the best tourist village by UN Tourism, Deputy Minister Ho An Phong said this is an opportunity for sustainable development.

Mr. Phong acknowledged that Tra Que Vegetable Village not only possesses a peaceful, friendly, and hospitable landscape like other villages, but the good thing is that the people here know how to make guests happy, know how to make guests spend, satisfy guests, and know how to provide services.

Mr. Ho Quang Buu, Vice Chairman of Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee, said that Quang Nam is very honored to be allowed by the Government and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to host the conference.

This is an international event, a great opportunity for Quang Nam in particular and Vietnam in general to promote tourism products as well as the image of the country and the friendly, hospitable Vietnamese people.
