The mailbox is located in the reading area behind hall A, an initiative of two students Tran Ngoc Thanh Truc and Nguyen Thi Thanh Vy (students of class 12A3, Nguyen Thi Minh Khai High School, District 3, Ho Chi Minh City).

Send letters and receive candy

The two friends said the mailbox helps friends of the same age to confide in issues in life such as family, friendships, schoolwork or difficult stories of adolescence.

Students can send letters with contact information or anonymously. The letters are screened by the two girls and forwarded to the school's counselor.

Tran Ngoc Thanh Truc shared: "Previously, we did a research project on students' awareness of school counseling . Realizing that this is an issue that students are interested in, the group built a Confidential Mailbox and a Message Mailbox.

These two mailboxes go together. You will put your letter in the consignment mailbox to share the problems you are facing. Then, the sender will receive candy with a small letter in the message mailbox. This helps you feel comforted, have more joy in the day and add energy to study."

Thanh Truc also added: "To avoid any fear, the group will not reveal the sender's information and will not sit there to see who drops the letter. We only set up two mailboxes and leave the candy there, and will check during the week. If you don't send a letter, you can still come by to receive the candy.

After receiving the letters, we will forward them to the school's counselors to promptly relieve your psychological stress" - Thanh Truc said.

Bridge information with psychologist

Nguyen Thi Thanh Vy said that the letters she sent mainly shared about her studies, grades, and relationships when entering a new environment...

"We ourselves have similar difficulties. These difficulties will have long-term effects and are difficult to solve alone without listening and understanding. At school age, students dare to speak and act but are still afraid of others thinking wrongly about them. The group hopes that this activity will promote more sharing" - Thanh Vy said.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Chuong - principal of Nguyen Thi Minh Khai High School (District 3, Ho Chi Minh City) - assessed this as a very practical project.

"Two 12th grade students have studied at school for two years and have witnessed some friends having psychological difficulties, but have not been bold enough to share or go to the psychological counseling room to meet with a professional counselor. I appreciate the idea of the two students. They care about their classmates at school.

You guys use these two mailboxes as a bridge, helping students have another channel to send messages to experts in the psychological counseling room.

The project also helps students have more information about psychological counseling rooms, more ways to share difficulties in studying, life, family, love... to orient and relieve them more reasonably and professionally" - Ms. Chuong said.

More forms of mental health care

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Chuong also said that the school has a psychological counseling room. However, the number of students coming to share their difficulties is still hesitant and limited.

"This mailbox will be a bridge for students to open up and have more forms of support for mental health care. This is also a criterion for evaluating a happy school when students can relieve difficulties that they do not know who to confide in.

For minor problems, you can ask your homeroom teacher for help, for bigger problems, ask a psychologist. For serious problems, the school will also connect with a psychological institute for intensive treatment," Ms. Chuong added.
