"If in previous years, people preferred Chinese rosebuds, in recent years, green willows and snow mai have never been out of fashion," said Ms. Le Thi Tuyet Mai, a vendor at Ho Thi Ky flower market (HCMC).

Chinese flowers are cheap, beautiful and durable!

This year, instead of choosing lilies, gladiolus or roses, Ms. Nguyen Thi Ly (living in District 3) decided to buy snow mai - a type of flower imported from China - to display on Tet. The reason: lilies, roses or chrysanthemums are available all year round, but snow mai only appears near Tet, so she took the opportunity to buy it to change the atmosphere.

"A vase of snow plum is very durable, can be used for a whole month. When the flowers bloom, the branches are white, it looks rustic and beautiful, bringing a feeling of prosperity and luck. This type of flower has a woody stem so the water does not need to be changed often," said Ms. Ly.

Visiting famous flower markets in Ho Chi Minh City such as Ho Thi Ky market (District 10) or Dam Sen flower market (District 11), it is not difficult to see images of snow mai flower bouquets displayed in eye-catching, prominent locations...

At Diem Chi flower shop (Ho Thi Ky market), one of the largest imported flower shops in the market, Tuyet Mai occupies a large corner, currently priced from 90,000 - 160,000 VND/bunch, with two main lines: wild Tuyet Mai and company Tuyet Mai. Wild Tuyet Mai is usually cheaper, the flower branches are rustic with fewer flowers and buds while company Tuyet Mai is fuller, fresher, and more eye-catching.

According to traders at the flower market, snow plum is the best-selling flower at the moment. Durable, beautiful, and cheap are the adjectives that traders use to describe Chinese flower arrangements.

Ms. Ngoc, a vendor at Ho Thi Ky market, shared that since the beginning of December, the number of customers ordering snow mai has increased sharply. Buyers want to decorate their homes early and enjoy the Tet atmosphere. In recent years, woody flowers with rustic beauty like snow mai have been very popular, for example, in the North, pear and plum branches are also very "hot".

In addition to its aesthetics and durability, snow plum is also highly valued economically. For only about 150,000 VND, you will have a beautiful vase of flowers that is also full of spring colors. Compared to peach or pear branches, the price of snow plum is much more economical, strange and unique.

Ms. Le Thi Tuyet Mai said that Chinese snow plums are cheaper and more beautiful every year. This year, the price at the beginning of the season ranges from 90,000 - 180,000 VND retail, wholesale is even cheaper and this price is much cheaper than when this type of flower first appeared, when the price was up to 400,000 VND/bunch.

According to Ms. Mai, flowers imported from China always occupy an important position in the Vietnamese Tet flower market. "If 10 years ago, rosebuds were a popular choice, then since the appearance of snow mai, this type of flower has always topped the list of best-selling flowers during Tet," she commented.

Regarding dyed flowers, Ms. Thanh Loan, another vendor at Ho Thi Ky market, said that star flowers from China were also very "hot", cheap, and had many eye-catching colors such as blue, red, and yellow, but she also expressed concern that they could be harmful to humans. consumer if exposed for long periods of time.

All kinds of Chinese flowers come to the market

In addition to snow plum, Tuoi Tre's records show that many types of flowers imported from China such as thanh lieu, anh dao sakura, tieu cau... although introduced to the market a long time ago, still maintain their appeal for many years, being popular during Tet.

In particular, Chinese Sakura cherry blossoms are even predicted by traders to surpass the "king of flowers" snow mai to become the best-selling flower this year. Ms. Ngoc said that this year's Sakura cherry blossoms are especially beautiful. The flowers are large, the colors are fresh, and the quality is much better than previous years. Besides, the selling price is also reasonable, only about 160,000 VND/bunch, enough to fill a large vase.

"Although it has just been put on sale, the number of customers asking to buy Sakura cherries has increased significantly. I expect to sell up to 200 bunches per day near Tet," said Ms. Ngoc.

Not only "unique" flowers but also common flowers such as orchids, carnations, etc. imported from China are also competing strongly. Ms. Ngoc commented: "Chinese carnations have diverse colors, large flowers and high durability. Colors such as wine red and pink bring a luxurious feeling, suitable for the Tet atmosphere, attracting customers even though the price is higher than Vietnamese flowers".

Meanwhile, Mr. Pham Hoang Thai Duong, CEO chain store According to Hoa Yeu Thuong, in the low-cost segment, Chinese orchids are competitively priced, only 1/3 to 1/4 compared to Vietnamese orchids.

However, Mr. Duong said that this is not too worrying, because these two types tend to complement each other rather than compete directly. "Chinese flowers have their own designs, types and colors. Therefore, the two sides have little overlap but mainly meet different needs," Mr. Duong commented.

In addition to popular flower lines, some imported Chinese flowers in the high-end segment such as the royal peach blossom or the winter peach blossom... have also caused a fever in recent years, meeting the needs of luxurious decoration and gifts.
