These days, Ho Chi Minh City is filled with spring colors in many flower markets such as September 23 Park, Le Van Tam Park (District 1), Gia Dinh Park (Phu Nhuan District), Thu Duc City spring flower market... and many other small retail areas on the streets.
According to a survey by Dan Tri reporters, the prices of flowers and ornamental plants for Tet this year are much lower than in previous years. Marigolds and sunflowers cost 150,000-200,000 VND/pair, small kumquats cost about 180,000-250,000 VND/tree. Yellow apricot trees cost from 500,000 VND to several million VND per tree depending on the type and size. Peach trees as tall as a person cost from 2 million VND/tree...

Mr. Trung, a garden owner in Ben Tre, admitted that the prices of ornamental plants and flowers for Tet this year are significantly lower than in previous years. As he spoke, he pointed to a pot of chrysanthemums with buds, stating that this year the selling price was 300,000 VND/pair, while last year it was about 450,000 VND/pair with the same size.
Not to mention, he also spent time buying beautiful plastic pots to display the chrysanthemums instead of the thin, makeshift pots like last year. Each pot "eats" an additional cost of 33,000 VND, but the selling price of the flowers has decreased.
The garden owner calmly explained that in the countryside, labor costs, raw materials, and fertilizers have all increased, so making flowers this year is not profitable. The economy is more difficult, buyers are also difficult, so they dare not sell at high prices, but after a few days of selling, there are only a few customers asking. He hopes that in the days before Tet, there will be more customers.
Ms. Lien, who sells kumquat trees and marigolds, introduces the prices to customers with the message: "Low prices, easy for customers to buy so I can go home early." She sells large kumquat trees for 180,000 VND/tree, smaller trees for 150,000 VND/tree, and marigolds for 150,000 VND/pair.
Ms. Lien explained that in previous years, this price did not exist, kumquats were also 300,000 VND/plant, and marigolds were 200,000-300,000 VND/pair. But this year, on the 24th of Tet, there were still only sellers, no buyers, she just hoped to sell the goods soon and get her capital back.
Having gone to the Tet market for many years in Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. Xuan Huy (Thu Duc City) admitted that this year the prices of Tet flowers and ornamental plants are softer than in previous years.
According to his observation, last year around this time, marigolds were sold for 300,000 pairs, but this year they were surprisingly cheap, down 50%. A few pots of bougainvillea as tall as the head, with bright pink flowers, which usually cost millions, were advertised for 700,000 VND/plant this year. However, he went to see them for information and did not buy them.

The owner of a garden at the flower market in An Phu Ward, Thu Duc City, said that yellow apricot trees priced from 7 million VND and up only have customers asking about them but not buying them. Trees priced around 4-5 million VND have had customers buying them, but not many. Small pots of yellow apricot trees or bonsai apricot trees, priced under 1 million VND/tree, are sold more.
Walking around the flower markets, people seem to be more excited about flowers and ornamental plants that cost a few hundred thousand dong, are easy to display, have bright colors and last a long time. Some ornamental chili peppers such as tomato chili, chili pepper, and five-color chili pepper are sold at the same price of 50,000 dong/pot, 85,000 dong/pair.
Many small bonsai apricot trees are sold for 200,000-300,000 VND, convenient to display on tables or in narrow, cozy spaces. Sunflower pots priced at about 200,000 VND/pair are also more popular, as buyers wish for a lucky new year and good health.
