saigonchildren's Scholarship Programme removes barriers to education by providing scholarship packages - including tuition support, books, rice, uniforms - to disadvantaged students from primary to university levels.
Saigonchildren takes a holistic approach to helping children learn for as long as possible through a network of parents, teachers and community leaders.
Of the 1,895 students receiving scholarship support in the 2023-2024 school year, 1,803 have completed the full school year, an increase of 2% compared to the previous school year. Particularly for university/college levels, there will be 89 graduates preparing to enter the labor market including in the fields of medicine, business, information technology and education.
In addition to financial support, improving soft skills and social knowledge for children is also a focus of the Program. Throughout the past school year, 13 training courses on the topic of Cyber Safety were successfully organized. In addition, a total of about 737 students from all levels participated in events on the occasion of Lunar New Year, Mid-Autumn Festival, Camping, and field trips.
This past school year, saigonchildren also marked the first time in many years that the value of the scholarship package has been adjusted, thereby helping to cover more tuition fees and reduce the financial burden on young families. Some children with special needs and circumstances will be proposed to be awarded additional bicycles, handheld computers, eyeglasses, hearing aids, etc.
Kieu My, a ninth-grade student in Tra Vinh who has received the scholarship for four years, shared, “The scholarship package is very valuable, because I can continue to go to school and try to study, and at the same time, my mother is less pressured to earn money to pay my tuition.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, my child was also given a new phone to study online when he could not go to school. Currently, he still uses this device every day for communication and foreign language learning.
At this time, saigonchildren is preparing 1,921 scholarships for all levels for the upcoming school year 2024 - 2025, including continuing to accompany students in the Scholarship Program, saigonchildren is also expanding to support a number of new disadvantaged children.
Up to now, the Scholarship Program has completed 28% of the target for high school and 80% of the target for university/college.
