The big win for the Thai team had four players scoring doubles: Ben Davis, Suphanat Muenta, Teerasak Poeiphimai and Seksan Ratree. The remaining two goals were scored by Patrik Gustavsson and Nicholas Mickelson.
Scoring continuously, but Thai players still want to score more goals against Timor Leste team
The Thai players opened the scoring in the 4th minute, and then easily controlled every situation on the field to win against the Timor Leste team, who were inferior in every aspect. This was like a practice match for the Thai players. In the first half, the "War Elephants" led 4-0, before scoring 6 more goals in the second half, including 2 goals in extra time.
After the match, Thailand coach Masatada Ishii said: "From the moment the opening goal was scored, my players showed their desire to score more goals. I personally did not think too much about the possible goal records. Winning 1-0 or winning 10-0 is the same, because the important thing is that we won. I am satisfied that the players' desire was always maintained and they scored their goals."
Regarding player Ben Davis' injury, coach Masatada Ishii assessed that it may only be a minor injury, but still need to wait for the test results to know specifically.
Despite the big win on the opening day, coach Masatada Ishii said: "Our strong opponents are still ahead. Therefore, we cannot make an accurate assessment yet. In the next match, we will meet Malaysia (who just drew 2-2 with Cambodia).
This is a strong opponent. But similar to the Timor Leste team we just met, we also need to have accurate assessments of our opponents. From there, we will make appropriate analyses and calculations. In the match against Timor Leste, right after the first half, we made calculations to adjust our playing style and made a difference."
Meanwhile, player Suphanat Muenta said: "When we were leading 6-0 or 7-0, I always wanted to score more goals. Unfortunately, I missed a few chances so I couldn't complete my hat-trick."
In the next match in Group A of the 2024 AFF Cup, the Thai team will return home to meet the Malaysian team at 8pm on December 14 at Rajamangala Stadium. The Malaysian team will previously meet the Timor Leste team at Bukit Jalil Stadium (8pm) on December 11. On the same day, the Singapore team will meet Cambodia at 6pm (both Vietnam time).
