B.Binh Duong Club defeated Phu Dong Ninh Binh Club 5-4 in the penalty shootout of the quarter-final match of the 2024 - 2025 National Cup, after a 2-2 draw in the two regular halves at Go Dau Stadium on the evening of March 29.
It is worth mentioning that Phu Dong Ninh Binh Club had a controversial 2-2 equalizer from Hoang Duc's 11m penalty in the 90+9 minute. In this situation, goalkeeper Minh Toan (B.Binh Duong) jumped up to catch the high ball and then fell down with Ngoc Lam (Phu Dong Ninh Binh).
After reviewing VAR, referee Nguyen Van Phuc decided to award the away team a penalty, claiming that goalkeeper Minh Toan had committed a high-footed foul. This decision was met with strong reactions from both the players and the coaching staff of B.Binh Duong Club.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, coach Nguyen Cong Manh (B.Binh Duong) said: "Goalkeeper Minh Toan almost controlled the situation. How could the ball reach the Ninh Binh player? We have to review that penalty. That was not very good."

Talking about the goal of B.Binh Duong Club in the 2024 - 2025 National Cup, Coach Nguyen Cong Manh said that he must try to achieve the highest results.
"The upcoming V-League journey will affect the team and wear down their physical strength. But I still tell the B.Binh Duong players to win the National Cup. The team has not had any achievements for 7 years, so this year we must try to do it," he said.
For his part, coach Nguyen Viet Thang shared: "Everyone wants to continue, but I have a little regret. B.Binh Duong is a top 4, top 5 team in V-League. We have tried our best."
"After losing 0-2, the players still played with the spirit of not giving up. So my feelings are more happy than regretful. Thank you to my players," he added.
Talking about the penalty at the end of the match, coach Nguyen Viet Thang affirmed that the referee was the one who knew best when watching the video.
He said: "I, Cong Manh or any other player can't watch. My side doesn't watch. I respect the referee's decision. There are many disputes, the other side often wave their arms. We have to play by the rules. The referee is managing the match well."
Sharing about the fact that goalkeeper Dang Van Lam was not called up to the Vietnamese national team during the FIFA Days last March, coach Nguyen Viet Thang said that it was coach Kim Sang Sik's fault.
"Each coach has his own perspective on using people. He is doing his job well," Viet Thang said.
