Taking advantage of favorable weather, contractors are mobilizing maximum manpower and machinery, dividing into many construction teams to speed up the North-South expressway project through Ha Tinh. Although construction has not been long, the shape of the expressway through Ha Tinh is gradually taking shape.

While closely monitoring the excavation and embankment work on the hill near National Highway 12C, when he saw someone coming, engineer Nguyen Duc Thong (Joint Stock Company 484 - 1 of 5 contractors undertaking the XL-01 construction package on the Vung Ang - Bung expressway section) raised his hand to signal us to wait.

The work was going smoothly, engineer Thong came over, took off his mask and helmet and chatted with us. Engineer Thong said that the weather was favorable so the unit was trying to speed up the hill's downgrading. Every day, the company's workers and engineers' shifts started from 6am to 7pm.

484 Joint Stock Company focuses on digging and upgrading a hill near Highway 12C.

Construction package XL-01 of the Vung Ang - Bung expressway section is 32.5 km long (the section through Ha Tinh is 12.9 km), worth 5,200 billion VND, the unit is in charge of constructing the section of the route that is more than 3 km long. The construction area is the intersection with National Highway 12C through Ky Tan commune, Ky Anh district, which is also the starting point of the Vung Ang - Bung expressway section.

Right from the start of construction, Joint Stock Company 484 mobilized maximum human and material resources to dig and lower the roadbed and construct the drainage system of the main highway.

In the construction area near Highway 12C, there are currently 13 excavators, 4 bulldozers, 6 rock drills and blasting machines, 8 vibrating rollers, 50 trucks carrying construction materials and nearly 100 workers working hard. Up to this point, the unit has dug and lowered the hill's level by about 1 million m3 and built a foundation of 300,000 m3 .

“In the past, the construction of the unit has been quite favorable when the site was fully handed over by the locality, the construction area is mainly mountainous so the digging and filling of the roadbed is not affected, thanks to the use of local materials” - engineer Thong shared.

The Ham Nghi - Vung Ang expressway section through Ky Tan commune, Ky Anh district is being accelerated by the contractor.

The bustling and urgent working atmosphere is also evident at the construction site of Son Hai Group. In the XL-01 construction package of the Vung Ang - Bung expressway, this contractor is in charge of the 5km main route and the Deo But road tunnel, nearly 1km long.

The image of hundreds of workers, engineers, modern equipment and machines working hard has become familiar at construction sites.

Son Hai Group mobilizes machinery and human resources to construct the main drainage system and drill the Deo But road tunnel.

After organic excavation and filling of the main roadbed, Son Hai Group is now focusing on drilling the Deo But tunnel and building the drainage system. In early May, the contractor started drilling and blasting at the Deo But tunnel entrance in the North and has now drilled 12/840m of the right tunnel tube and 20/716m of the left tunnel tube.

According to Mr. Do Quoc Tuan - Director of Construction Management Board of Son Hai Group, due to the characteristics of the terrain, the construction area is about to enter the rainy season, affecting the work, especially tunnel drilling, the unit is increasing human resources, machinery and equipment for construction. Ensuring progress but construction quality and safety are always the top criteria.

Deo But Tunnel is designed with 2 tunnels with lengths of 716m and 840m respectively.

The 55.34 km long Vung Ang - Bung expressway section with a total investment of VND 12,548 billion, passing through Ha Tinh (12.9 km) and Quang Binh (42.44 km), was started simultaneously with 12 North - South expressway projects in the East phase 2021-2025, on January 1, 2023. Due to the need to clear the ground and prepare the construction site, it was not until March that contractors could start construction simultaneously.

Although it has only been implemented for 4 months, with contractors mobilizing 728 workers, engineers and 314 machines and equipment, divided into 38 construction teams, up to now, the construction volume has met the set plan.

Specifically, on this section, the roadbed was dug 2.5/5.6 million m3 , the roadbed was filled 1,344/2,927 million m3 , 338/569 piles were bored, 29/457 Super T beams were cast, 22/45 I beams were cast, 2,141/2,509m of round culverts and box culverts were assembled, 3,170/5,909 m3 of civil underpasses were built...

Hung Duc Bridge across Lam River connecting Nghe An and Ha Tinh provinces on the North-South Expressway is under construction.

Along with the Vung Ang - Bung section, in Ha Tinh, there are currently 2 projects of the North - South Eastern Expressway in the 2021-2025 period, namely Bai Vot - Ham Nghi with a length of 35.28 km and Ham Nghi - Vung Ang with a length of 54.2 km, also under construction.

At the construction site of the intersection connecting the Bai Vot - Ham Nghi expressway section in the 2021-2025 phase with the Dien Chau - Bai Vot expressway section in the 2017-2020 phase, constructed by Vietnam Construction and Import-Export Joint Stock Corporation (Vinaconex), the contractor is closely following the "critical path" of progress.

Contractor Vinaconex focused on human resources and machinery to construct the intersection connecting the Dien Chau - Bai Vot expressway with the Bai Vot - Ham Nghi expressway, in the area passing through Thanh Binh Thinh commune, Duc Tho district.

According to engineer Bui Quoc Hung - Construction site commander of the intersection of Vinaconex Company, the intersection project started on January 1, 2023 but was required to be completed in June 2024 - the same time as the Dien Chau - Bai Vot expressway section, instead of the end of 2025, so the pressure on construction progress is quite large.

However, for the common goal of the project, the unit is working day and night to ensure progress. Currently, the contractor mobilizes 40 engineers and workers, along with 6 vibrating rollers, 3 bulldozers, 2 bored pile drilling machines, 2 cement reinforced soil construction rigs and 40 trucks carrying soil and sand, divided into "3 shifts, 4 crews" to work.

Contractors mobilize maximum human resources and machinery to ensure construction progress.

It is noted that the atmosphere at construction sites is more bustling and urgent as many "bottlenecks" in terms of land and construction material sources are actively resolved by local authorities in coordination with investors and contractors.

Although the rains in recent days slowed down the construction pace, as soon as the rain stopped and the roadbed gradually dried, hundreds of engineers, workers, and locomotives and equipment resumed their work at a more urgent pace. Each part of the work was carried out meticulously and carefully by engineers and workers, with consultants supervising and evaluating as they went along.

Contractors are working day and night to ensure the proposed progress.

For locations that are critical to progress, including construction of public roads, treatment of weak soil in bridge and underpass projects, etc., the investor - Thang Long Project Management Board (Ministry of Transport) requires contractors to focus on construction and strive to complete before the rainy season.

With Ha Tinh's efforts in site clearance, removing bottlenecks in construction materials and the contractor's determination in construction, the shape of the North-South expressway through the province is gradually taking shape, bringing with it expectations and wishes for a "take-off" for the province's traffic and freight transport sector, contributing to trade connectivity and opening up many development opportunities.
