Understand and further promote the role of prestigious people

The province currently has 121 prestigious people in ethnic minority areas. Over the years, the prestigious people have joined hands and actively supported the authorities at all levels to mobilize people to effectively carry out socio-economic development tasks, preserve cultural identity, and join hands in building new rural areas in localities.

For the development of villages

Coming to Hiep Tien village, Canh Hiep commune (Van Canh district), asking about Mr. Thach Van Liem (born in 1980, Cham ethnic group), almost everyone knows him, because he is a prestigious person who is always close to and attached to the people and has made important contributions to changing the appearance of the countryside and the life of the village.

As soon as he was elected by the people as a prestigious person in 2009 and held the role of Head of the Village Savings and Loan Group, Mr. Liem, together with the village management board, mobilized and supported 60 households to borrow from the Social Policy Bank a total of over 3.5 billion VND to develop hybrid acacia planting and cattle raising; as a result, 57 households escaped poverty.

Mr. Le Van Anh (born in 2000, Cham ethnic group, in Hiep Tien village) said that thanks to Mr. Liem's ​​mobilization, he borrowed 100 million VND from the district's Social Policy Bank to plant 4 hectares of hybrid acacia, raise 4 cows, earn an annual income of over 60 million VND and escape poverty.

Besides helping people develop the economy, Mr. Liem also coordinated to mobilize people to voluntarily donate land and crops, clear the ground for construction of roads in the village, the road in the west of Van Canh district; participated in successfully mediating 14 conflicts in residential areas; built a new cultural life in the community...

Elected by the people as a prestigious person from 2023 to present, Mr. Dinh Pong (born in 1964, Bana ethnic group, Ha Ri village, Vinh Hiep commune, Vinh Thanh district) is a testament to the role of community cohesion in the residents. Realizing the potential for tourism development at Ta Ma stream, Mr. Pong and the village management board mobilized households to cooperate in building over 100 huts along both sides of the stream for tourists to rent; utilizing stilt houses for guests to stay overnight, creating a new source of income.

Ms. Doan Thi My Kien (born in 1993, Cham ethnic group, in Ha Ri village) said: “With the encouragement of Mr. Pong, my family and 5 families in the village built a hut for tourists to rent to have fun at Ta Ma stream. In addition, I take advantage of my family's stilt house to rent to guests for overnight accommodation, aiming to provide additional food services, tour guides, and souvenirs for tourists”.

Continue to promote the role of a prestigious person

According to the Department of Ethnic Minorities and Religions, the province currently has 121 prestigious people among ethnic minorities. In order to continue to promote the role of this force, the province has fully implemented policies such as commendation, gift giving, visiting when sick, distributing Binh Dinh Newspaper and Ethnic & Development Newspaper, providing timely information to prestigious people.

Standing Vice Chairman of Van Canh District People's Committee Nguyen Xuan Viet said that there are 28 prestigious people in the ethnic minority area in the district. The district always creates conditions for this group to promote their role and strengths in all areas of social life, especially contributing ideas to build programs and plans for local socio-economic development.

The team of prestigious people has been strongly promoting their role in all fields of work, not allowing backward customs to persist, people themselves resolving conflicts occurring at the grassroots level, maintaining peace in life in villages, hamlets, and neighborhoods, developing the socio-economy, making an important contribution to the work of building and consolidating the great national unity bloc.

Mr. Tran Van Thanh, Deputy Director of the Department of Ethnic Minorities and Religions, said: To better promote the role of prestigious people, local Party committees and authorities need to be more deeply aware of the important role of prestigious people among ethnic minorities; at the same time, replicate and spread good practices, good examples and encourage prestigious people to contribute more to the development of each community.
