Every time she goes to the supermarket, Ms. Hoang Thi Ha, Dong Huong Ward (Thanh Hoa City) has the habit of carefully researching product information before deciding to buy. Instead of reading some basic information about expiration date and price, Ms. Ha uses her smartphone to scan the QR code printed on the packaging. Ms. Ha said: "After being instructed by my daughter, I learned that just by scanning the QR code, I can know the origin of this box of tomatoes, such as what kind of seeds were used, how to care for them, what types of fertilizers were used during the growing process, and even packaging, transportation, expiration date... so I feel very secure in choosing to buy and use them for my family."
In the past, when buying any product, Ms. Le Nga, Tan Phong town (Quang Xuong) often had to go to the website to search for information about that product first. However, as more and more businesses use QR codes to trace the origin of their products, finding information has become much easier and simpler. "Previously, I only saw fresh food products with QR codes. In the past year, most products of companies and businesses have QR codes for users to check their origin, helping consumers feel more secure when choosing," said Ms. Nga.
The QR code scanning application for product traceability is a two-dimensional barcode, read by a smartphone with a camera function and a network connection. After each scan, the system will automatically inform consumers about the origin of the product, including the place of manufacture, manufacturer, distributor or business unit of the product. Consumers also learn more about the price, point of sale, uses, ingredients... of the product. Scanning the QR code is quite simple and easy to use; even those who are not familiar with information technology can easily do it... Also from this practical need, in recent years, the solution to trace the origin of products and goods has been of interest to many businesses and manufacturers and put into use. The most popular are in products such as fruits, food, consumer goods... Goods with QR codes often receive more attention and are chosen by more consumers. Because besides price and appearance, many people pay more attention to origin, standards, quality; information about raw materials, transportation process, distributors, stores...
It can be seen that tracing the origin through product information encoding is very necessary for both consumers and businesses, bringing trust to customers. For businesses, applying QR code scanning helps save costs, time and human resources for tracing the origin, as well as enhancing the reputation and brand of the product; for consumers, they will be more aware of using products with transparent origins, limiting the situation of counterfeit and poor quality goods. For management agencies, monitoring and controlling the origin of products, as well as promptly detecting and handling violations or fraud cases will be easier. However, to widely and effectively deploy this technology, there needs to be synchronous coordination of relevant departments, agencies and sectors, as well as appropriate policies and regulations to encourage and support the application of QR code scanning in tracing the origin.
